Auberge Saint Walfrid Hôtel Restaurant & Spa

It's characteristically French to find a superb quality hotel/restaurant in what appears to be a relatively nondescript town. We stopped one night at St Walfrid en route from the channel coast to Alsace, and it proved to be a really luxurious treat stay. The place has high quality standards throughout, both in the older part of the building and in the newer block, in which was our large and highly impressive beamed bedroom, with excellent shower room. The one-star restaurant has a restrained but highly professional quality, the service meriting particular praise, with a wine list that would take some beating, featuring bottles costing thousands of euros, but sensibly also including interesting and very reasonably priced choices by the glass.

When entering the hotel lobby, it is obvious that it's a very old but charming building, but the rooms in the new wing are ultra modern and sleek. We had a very large king room with wonderful bedding and pillows, large windows and many convenient plug ins for recharging. The bathroom was great with rain shower and fluffy big towels. A great stay!

Huge rooms, huge bathroom, gorgeous sitting room. The room had gorgeous old beams, the bathroom was bigger than my front room! The decor of the room was sensational, and like all the rooms was themed - mine was local crystal and there was a chandelier lamp taller than me and display cabinets of glassware and beautiful ornaments. The bed was huge too and super, super comfy. The rooms are silent, perfect for slumber, and you only have to go downstairs to the Michelin star restaurant to complete your ideal stay.
