The Brunswick

We really enjoyed our stay at the Brunswick, which was the perfect base for our adventures around the island. The location is ideal, and we particularly found Andy, the Head Waiter (we hope we remembered his name correctly!) to be really friendly, accommodating and professional. The breakfast was delicious and nothing was too much trouble, exactly what you want on holiday! Unfortunately the pool was closed for maintenance two out of three days of our stay so we didn’t get to use it as much as we hoped which was a shame but we understand that can’t be helped. If we were to be very picky it might have been nice to have had more than one plug socket in the room to charge our phones etc. but overall it was a wonderful stay!

Friendly and hospitable from the minute we walked through the door. Our dogs could not have selected a better place. Although the dogs could not join us for our daily swim, they did come down for breakfast each day and were treated to a sausage for breakfast. The hotel and staff set the tone for a brilliant weekend on the island.

We stayed at the Brunswick Hotel for a weekend away (sun-mon) in the Isle of Wight with breakfast the following morning. It has a lovely modern feel as you walk in and staff are all very lovely and helpful. As you enter the hallway for the rooms the modern feel fades with vintage red old carpets. Floorboards are squeaky alongside a squeaky bed also. Strange shower setup, see-through curtains and basic rooms. However we slept incredibly well with a few DIY amendments (placing the provided blanket over the curtains to create a blackout effect). Also not a great view out of our particular bedroom window. The following morning we had a lovely breakfast in the beautiful dining room. Cereals were provided alongside bread for toast with the choice of chocolate spread, jams and honey and then a set menu for hot food items. This is a fabulous idea as less food wastage. The views from the dining room are gorgeous as it is see front. We had a lovely peaceful stay at the Brunswick hotel. It’s not 5 star but it’s fantastic at its price point. We would stay here again. Booked an exclusive kids swimming party followed by kids lunch for 11 children. Absolutely brilliant venue. Fab team of David & Em at the hotel who orchestrated our event. I decorated our tables and brougut cake. We had total use of the pool, dining area and games room. The hotel is lovely as always. We've stayed many times. We couldn't have asked for better. Thank you David, Em and your kitchen team. Food came out on time and as ordered. David accommodated one extra little one and we even had extra sandwiches, chips and lots of hot drinks for grown ups. Thank you to the lovely chef who accommodated our lady min requests. Nothing was too much trouble. The Brunswick is a little gem in Shanklin. X

We stayed for our birthdays and were not disappointed. The room was serviced and the beds were made every day. The location near Chine walk and old town Shanklin was brilliant. Parking easy. Friendly staff. Only had breakfast but very tasty. Would book again.

Myself, Husband & two friends had the unfortunate experience of staying in the Brunswick. It was our first time in IOW & had travelled a long way to stay in this awful hotel. Room was very dated, tired looking & also lacked cleanliness. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls, mismatched old bedside lamps plugged into an extension cable! TV on wall with lots of wires hanging from it. Furniture tired & all scratched. Bathroom was not clean, black mould in corners of bath tiles. Shower head was not high enough for my Husband. & he had to stoop to shower. List is endless! My Husband’s bath towel was filthy with black marks & had to use hand towel to dry himself with. Had to ask reception 3 times during the day for this changed. Breakfast was very poor. I asked for a poached egg for breakfast on the first morning & it was rock hard& was like rubber. I was not able to eat it. I had scrambled egg the next day & it was all sloppy & inedible. My Husband had the full breakfast which he said was very poor quality & only got one of each item! Our friend is a bit more picky with his breakfast so he asked for bacon, egg & beans. His plate came out like a child’s portion of one fried egg, one piece of bacon & a small ramekin of beans. Not only is the food terrible but dining chairs have been painted & are all scratched. My friend ordered a burger when we arrived on the Friday night. She could not eat it as it was like rubber. She had to just scrape it into the bin nearby. Our stay in IOW was totally ruined staying in such a shabby, dirty & tired hotel. I know that this is only a 3 star hotel but that doesn’t mean your room should be dirty or you have a filthy bath towel for you to use. I have stayed in far better back street B&B’s in Blackpool & paid a lot less for the stay. If it wasn’t for the hotels nearby all being booked up I would have insisted on a refund, packed up & stayed somewhere else. We had a terrible experience & would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Please don’t waste your money staying here!
