Hotel Sønderborg Kaserne

Very clean, modern, rather large rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Free tea&coffee available at the kitchen. Will stay there again when in the area.

Room was clean, comfortable and big. Nice seating area with view of the waterfront. Mattress very comfortable. Coffee/tea facility. Reception staff was very helpful, recommending sights and restaurants. Breakfast buffet offered a good selection and staff in the breakfast hall were very helpful. The hotel is a short walk away from the waterfront, town centre is walkable as is the Alsion Koncertsalen across the water where we enjoyed a wonderful concert. We spent five nights in the hotel and were sad to leave. Can't wait to return next year.

Just back from a weekend in beautiful Sonderborg for business, where we strayed from our usual hotel to stay at Stalag Kaserne. Lord knows why we even bothered. A quirky ex-Army training camp which on the face of it is unusual but pretty cool. Check in done by emails and pin codes which although a little more "A.I." than I prefer is what it is, as long as it works. And it didn't. My business partner spent ages trying to get into his allocated room only to discover when finally checking the company email that a room number change had been actioned while we were travelling. Strike one. Once in the rooms they were modern, clean and characteristically minimal but very nice and comfortable. However, no AC and with windows that didn't open, I was forced to sleep with an external door ajar all night to let some air in on a very hot June night. Strike two. Breakfast a short walk away in the next "cell block" which was pleasant enough. And off to work we went, while "strike three" was being perpetrated. For some reason, my colleagues room was given to someone else while we were out enjoying a long day of work and his belongings ceremoniously gathered up, put in his suitcase and left in reception (which was unstaffed and unlocked and could be accessed by anyone who chose to) with a torn off piece of paper stuffed in the handle with his (ex)room number on and a message passed to our employer (who had booked our rooms) to let him know as we could not be contacted. The belongings of at least 3 other (unknown to us) people were treated the exact same way and left in the same place and them left in the same situation as us, by the way for any readers who are by now thinking that we mjst have done something reprehensible to upset our hosts and cause ourselves to be evicted. Utter disgrace. To handle and collect up someones belongings (which included cash and expensive electronic communication devices) and dump them in a public area at the mercy of anyone who may choose to help themselves is borderline criminal, not to mention the inconvenience and expense of finding and paying for another hotel at 9pm on a Saturday night while we were still dressed in full business suits and wanted nothing more than to eat and sleep was something neither of us had ever experienced in decades of travel. Luckily, our "usual" hotel welcomed us back with open arms so we had a place to sleep. On the downside, a late night trip to McDonalds was as close to a taste of Denmark as we could muster by the time this was all sorted. Multiple phone calls to the hotel "robot" went unanswered and we have still not received an explaination for this apparent character test of a weekend. So, if you wish to be treated with the same "you a** belongs to us" attitude as the budding military heroes that once inhabited this structure please crack on. However, us mere civvies will be avoiding Sonderborgs answer to Camp Pendleton like the plague going forwards. Hotel Kaserne, you.re

Shocking! Problems checking in and nobody answering the phone number which is left at reception. (Pin code is emailed to gain entry to the room). However, we had a two night reservation and when returning late after the first night, found that apparently hotel had double booked our room...their solution was to remove all our belongings and leave them UNATTENDED in reception! No consideration for safety of property including passport, cash and electronics. Still unclear WHY as again nobody answers the number they leave at reception. Equally unclear whether they expect to refund the cost of the room for the night we were left WITHOUT accommodation. Nobody available on phone and emails unanswered. Would suggest AVOID at all costs.

very enjoyable, will stay again any time

This hotel is hidden up a small rough road. Very few signs to help you find the place. It is designed for looks, not practicality. There are unexpected steps that make it hard to use for many with reduced mobility . The room was accesible only through two failry high step, and out to the small balcony a surprisingly large step down. There are many more stepts around the hotel. Ahead of check-in you receive a code for the door and everything about the room is on an app/website. Not sure if there is a front desk. The room is stark and minimalistic. Basic furniture. A small armoir holds a fridge and a hair dryer. A fairly large TV has lots of channels. The work desk is small and there are precious few electrical outlets. good WiFi. The bed is fine with large douvets and a couple of pillows. The batroom is very minimalistic. Very small sink. A shower stall with only a partial glass divider, so the floor in the general bathroom tends to be soaked. The shower itself had hot water, but alas the sink did not. The very small sink had an automatic faucet, i.e. it was near mpossible to fill the sink to shave. That did not matter much, as the water never came above tepid. Very little space to put down your toiletries. Wall mounted dispenser of shampoo and conditioner. Almost no ventilation so everything fogs up. Daily maid service. Breakfast is in a neighboring building in what looks like an old basketball court. It was a good spread with lots of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, cereals, fruit etc. Some scrambled eggs and bacon as well. Very friendly attendants (Joey and Patricia) who kept kept the place neat and well stocked.

We asked to have vegan options for breakfast and the only thing that we got was oats and oatmilk, sidedish greens and some bread and marmelade. No vegan butter or vegan cheese and no apology. We asked when we booked and again at arrival and was assured, that it was taken care of. I can only give that service 1 star since we

Pros: spacious room with nice view. Friendly receptionists. Free parking in the premises. Cons: Saw some stains in the towel. Towels should be stain free.

Very clean, comfortable bed, everything you needed and an incredibly good breakfast. Air conditioning would have been a plus as it was so hot when we stayed.
