Hotels in Sydney Chinatown, Ultimo

We stayed at Sydney Central Hotel, managed by The Ascott Limited, during our holiday in the last week of September. The hotel was mainly intended for us as a place to have breakfast, sleep, and relax after a day out exploring the city. In my view, a good hotel is one where I never have to call housekeeping or the front desk to get basic things done. Unfortunately, this was not the case here, nor in my previous stay at Somerset Grand Hanoi, also managed by Ascott, where I faced similarly unpleasant experiences. In Hanoi, the water heater malfunctioned in very cold weather. After a long day outside, my young kids were forced to bathe in cold water, and we had to endure late-night repair work in the room instead of resting. It completely ruined that part of our trip. At Sydney Central Hotel, issues continued. Although we requested early check-in, and were given a room around 2:30 pm, we immediately discovered clothes left behind by the previous occupants in the cabinet. The reception staff was polite and gave us another room, but it was more dated than the first. Later that night, we found that the bathtub drain stopper was missing, making the tub unusable. Despite multiple calls and reminders over four days, the issue was never resolved. Housekeeping was also inconsistent — we were four guests, yet towels provided were often just two or three. On one occasion, we were told an additional towel could only be arranged the next day, which was unacceptable. To add to the frustration, the manager even made a remark about the booking site used, leaving the impression that guests who don’t book directly are not valued. The only positive aspect was that when we had to leave early before breakfast, the staff arranged takeaway breakfast packs for us. Overall, the lack of service quality and basic attention to guest comfort made this stay disappointing. A holiday should not be overshadowed by repeated calls and requests for essentials that should be standard. Based on these experiences, I will be avoiding such properties in the future.

This hotel Doesn’t provide 24 hour reception . If too early arrive they may not answer the door for you. Location is near to china town and central station . Very convenient . And facilities are quite nice including the hair dryer and shower facilities. Air con is a bit cold and the blanket is a little bit thin for that . But overall is a satisfactory experience.

Very good location hotel in the city spot and not much busy a lot of stuff to do for kids fam around there nice cafe nice shop very happy this trip

Excellent location - extremely convenient. Quick and easy to get everywhere thanks to proximity to the light rail, along with being walking distance from darling harbour. Unfortunately the hotel messed up our booking and there was no family room available upon our arrival but we were upgraded to a suite which was great. A shame we had to wait until 3pm to check in which is rather late in comparison to most hotels. The room itself was clean and tidy though I would say not really ‘4 star’. Overall it was a solid stay for our family of three but I would suggest the hotel is being a little cheeky with their ‘suggestion’ that room cleaning only happens every 4 days- I want my rubbish cleaned out every day thankyou!

Great location near to station (train) Walking distance to everything

We had such a good time in this city for sure would come back again if we could and enjoy the food and scenery around us! Not only that our friends and family enjoyed it too! Definitely recommend come and enjoy this place as we did!

The hotel is very convenient, with a great location and easy access to everything I needed. The staff were friendly, helpful, and made my stay comfortable. Overall, a pleasant experience with good service. I love the manager his name is joseph

Great price and location close to Haymarket and Darling Harbour area. Easy walking distance took us less then 10mins to Chinatown. Hotel was beautifully appointed, bed very comfy and clean. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, baked beans, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and pastries. OJ, Tea and instant coffee. Perfect! Parking was a 1 minute walk away and $25 for 24 hours over the weekend with plenty of spaces available - not sure if its more on weekdays. Would definitely book again.
