Staff were very helpful with new customs of a Japanese style hotel, despite the language barrier. Good food and a western style breakfast available. The garden is a wonderful oasis and the ones was very enjoyable.

If you would like to enjoy/experience typical high-end Japanese ryokan. You never regret choosing this hotel. The excellent dinner (I chose fugu-kaiseki) is offered at the individual dining rooms with great privacy. You enjoy quiet moment at their beautiful Japanese garden where many carps. People are very kind and attentive. I had a very impressive time there.

The front desk and meal staff are reasonably friendly and pleasant. There are not many rooms, and there are no drunken or group guests making a fuss, so you can spend your time with peace of mind. There are two room baths, a large public bath, and several private baths, all of which are kept clean. If there's even a little bit of dirt in the room, you'll have to skip the public bath and just take a bath in your room, but this one was so well kept that even those of us who don't like dirty places were able to use it. I don't like hotels that don't have towels in the bathroom, so I was relieved in that regard. This is one of the few hotels where I am not dissatisfied with both the food and quality.

沢山の鯉が行き届いて飼育されていて、ていれもきちんとした日本庭園の情緒ある旅館でした。館内のスタッフの気遣いも行き届いていて、素晴らしいです。しかし、他の方も口コミされていますが、このクラスのホテルで「極」のお食事であったのに、お料理や仕出しサービスはがっかりで、疑問が残るものでした。使ってある食材はさることながら、あまり手がかかっていなさそうな調理が多く、懐石でしたらもう一手間一工夫欲しいところです。お新香はHotto Mottoのお弁当についてきそうなものだし、デザートも手抜きでした。料理だけでかなり価値を下げ、もったいないと感じました。

今回も感染予防を十分にしたうえで「感染防止のための基本的な考え方」と「講じるべき具体的な対策」を行い、旅行を楽しみました。 チェックイン時にはダイニング錦旗でのウェルカムドリンクのお抹茶サービスを受けての部屋入り、歴史を感じる部屋は綺麗でした。 お部屋の鍵が１本しかありませんので、入浴の際のタイミングは夫婦一緒に部屋に戻ってくる必要があるので面倒です。 館内には歴史ある建物と素晴らしい日本庭園、偉人が残した様々な物品、いずれも一見の価値のあるものでした。 1675年創業の老舗旅館で、幕末には坂本龍馬が滞泊したり、西郷隆盛、大久保利通、木戸孝允らが薩長同盟の内容を詰めたり、高杉晋作が「国家に尽くすのときなり」と刻んだ楓があったりと、志士たちにゆかりの深い宿とのこと、お部屋の名前には雪舟、沢潟（毛利家の裏紋）など、山口ゆかりの名がついていますが、中でも今回泊まった部屋は必見の高杉102号室でした。その部屋は若干狭い部屋で高杉晋作の名前の付いた部屋でした。 部屋からは敷地内の庭園出ることが出来ます。 また、家族風呂「維新の湯」の湯舟は、幕末、1860年に作られたそのままで、そこに入れるんです。この湯舟に浸かったであろう有名人は、高杉晋作・桂小五郎（木戸孝允）・大村益次郎・広沢真臣・山県有朋・井上馨・伊藤博文・坂本龍馬・西郷隆盛・大久保利通・小松帯刀・三条実美など名だたる有名人ばかり。高杉晋作や龍馬が入った当時の湯舟に入れるのは、160年経つ御影石、いままで全国の史跡も巡っていますが、ここまで臨場感を体感できる史跡はなかなかないです。 回遊式日本庭園を楽しみたいなら、この本館1階がオススメですが、101～108号まである中で、102号室だけがちょっと奥まっているので、部屋からの庭園は見えにくいです。 館内には史跡や資料もたくさんあります。松田屋ホテルの外の大通り沿いには「明治維新史跡松田屋」という石碑があったり、回遊式日本庭園には、西郷、木戸らが薩長同盟の密議をした会見所や、三条実美手植えの松と歌碑があります。 館内には、高杉晋作が「国家に尽くすのときなり」と刻んだ楓が保存されています。 さらに明治維新資料室もあり、そこには高杉晋作の甲冑や西郷隆盛、三条実美の掛軸などがあり館内は博物館といったところです。 夕食も、ふぐあり、ステーキあり、刺身あり、大満足でした。 館内の行灯に毛利の一に三ツ星の家紋が入っており、細かいところに歴史を感じられて、とても楽しめる旅館でした。 また山口に行く時には是非泊まらせていただきたいと思います。
