Birdwatching season in Altai:

Mid-March to late May is the golden bird watching period in Altay! In spring, the birds fly in flocks, and in fall, the forests don their colorful coats. Every shot here is a blockbuster!

Recommended viewing spots:  

1. Altay Kekesu Wetland Reserve: It is the habitat of rare birds such as black cranes, golden eagles and whooper swans.  

2. Tangba Lake Scenic Area: As the lake surface shines in gold under the setting sun, and water birds fly across the lake, the scene is as beautiful as a painting.  

3. Kelan Grand Canyon: Rare birds such as white storks and Reeves's pheasants can be seen here, making it a great place for bird watching.

Bird watching tips:  

1. Clothing: Avoid bright colors and choose gray, black, blue, green or camouflage clothing to blend with the surrounding.  

2. Gear: Telescope, telephoto camera, sunscreen, warm clothes (large temperature difference between morning and evening).  

3. Notes: Stay quiet and do not disturb the birds. Do not collect bird eggs or catch wild birds. Pay attention to safety and stay away from water.  

Transportation:  

1. Self-drive route: Altay City → Tangba Lake → Kekesu Wetland Reserve → Kelan Grand Canyon. The scenery along the entire journey is simply picturesque.  

2. Public transport: You can take a bus from Altay City to the different attractions, but remember to check the schedule in advance.  

Food:

1. Altay grilled fish, pilaf, mutton skewers. Don't forget to reward your stomach while bird watching.
