In the early Tang Dynasty, the state built the Zhiping Academy here, which became a place for literati and scholars to compose poetry, cultivate themselves, and nurture their character. In the second year of Tang Qianyuan (759), the poet Du Fu fled the An-Shi Rebellion, entering Shu from Tonggu (now Chengxian County, Gansu), and traveled through Yinping and Jinniu ancient roads via Jiange and Mianzhou to reach Chengdu. In the first year of Tang Baoying (762), Du Fu sent off his close friend Yan Wu, the governor of Chengdu and the military commissioner of Jiannan, back to the court, and came to Mianzhou again. Du Fu bid farewell to Yan Wu and was about to return to Chengdu, but unexpectedly, Xu Zhidao, the deputy governor of Chengdu and the military commissioner of Jiannan, rebelled, cutting off the road to Mianzhou. Chengdu was in chaos, and under the persuasion of Du Ji, the governor of Mianzhou, and his friends, Du Fu temporarily stayed in Mianzhou. He stayed from summer to autumn of that year before accepting the invitation of the governor of Zizhou (now Santai County) to go to Zizhou. Du Fu lived in Zizhou for nearly two years. During this period, he either attended invitations from local celebrities, visited old friends, or frequently traveled between Mianzhou. Du Fu temporarily stayed in Mianzhou and visited Mianzhou several times, all residing in Zhiping Academy. The green Furong Creek and the beautiful Zhiping Academy left a deep impression on Du Fu. In later poems, he referred to this place as "Zuo Mian Mansion." The People's Park was built in the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930) by the then Sichuan garrison National Revolutionary Army 29th Army Deputy Commander and Northwest Sichuan Colonization Commander Sun Dechao and the gentry and people of 14 counties. It is located outside the northwest corner of the old city, covering an area of about 212 acres. Initially, it had a two-story brick platform building, a Zhaolie Library, three mushroom pavilions, three wooden rail bridges, and a crescent-shaped lotus pond. There were also square ponds and lotus ponds. In 1950, the Mianyang People's Government took over and renamed it "Mianyang People's Park". 📍Attraction Address: Hongxing Village, Shitang Town, Southern Mianyang, Sichuan Province, on the right bank of Anchang River, halfway up Nanshan, 3 kilometers from the city center 🚗Attraction Transportation: Convenient to travel by shared bicycle 👍️Must-visit Attraction: Baiyi Temple is considered a famous temple in Mianzhou City, roughly built during the mid-Ming Dynasty (around 1620). The address is now at Weisheng Alley and Shuncheng Street. A three-foot-high bronze statue of Guanyin and a four-foot-high statue of Weituo were unearthed here. Baiyi Temple was largely destroyed after the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, as Sun Wenhuan of the state wrote the 'Reconstruction of Baiyi Temple Stele' at this time. In the 28th year of the Republic of China (1939), the new South Gate was built, occupying the location of Baiyi Temple. In the early 1990s, the southern section of Hongxing Street was renovated and the street was widened, making it impossible to restore Baiyi Temple in its original location. Although there are many temples in Mianyang, there are no nunneries. The earliest advocate for the construction of Baiyi Temple was Master Guoren of Shengshui Temple, with active support from laypersons Wang Zejia and Miao Zhifang. Master Renshan (86 years old) suggested going to Chengdu to find his disciples Changguo, Changhui, Changdu, and Changxiu to undertake the project. In June 1992, laypersons Chen Xiugu and Zhou Huifang went to Wenshu Monastery to invite Changguo (a nun), a high disciple studying Buddhism, to Mianyang. A preparatory group of five people, including Yin Changyan and Changguo, was formed to rebuild Baiyi Temple using the old site of the Ten Sages Hall of the original Nanshan Temple. There were 4 nuns and more than 500 believers, with Guanyin Hall and Mahavira Hall, and 14 rooms. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928 AD), the Mianyang Buddhist Society was established here. After liberation, the temple was occupied, most of the nuns dispersed, some returned to secular life and engaged in production labor, and some returned home to practice. In May 1992, with the approval of the Fucheng District Government, it was officially restored as a Buddhist temple and opened to the public. The Mahavira Hall, Guanyin Hall, viewing hall, monk's quarters, and roads have been built and renovated. The Guanyin Hall covers an area of one acre, with a height of 13 meters, a three-bay structure, red eaves, yellow tube tiles, and a sloping roof. In the center of the hall, there is a 6-meter-high statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, made of clay and gilded, solemn and compassionate, surrounded by 32 statues of Guanyin Bodhisattva's manifestations. The Mahavira Hall covers an area of 1.5 acres, with double eaves, a height of 15 meters, a three-bay structure, red eaves, golden copper tiles, and a sloping roof, imitating the Qing architectural style. Inside the hall, there are statues of Shakyamuni Buddha and the Eighteen Arhats.
