Hey everyone! While traveling in New York recently, I needed a little escape from the city noise and skyscrapers. So this weekend, I took a trip out to Long Island, and honestly, it was awesome. I visited two spots: the Vanderbilt Museum and Old Westbury Gardens. The Vanderbilt Museum is a gorgeous waterfront estate. As a designer, I really appreciated the Spanish-style architecture of the house, but what hooked me the most was their natural history collection! There's an impressive number of marine animals and taxidermy birds put together by the former owner. It's a true old-school cabinet of curiosities—I could have easily spent hours there. Admission was around $10, which is very reasonable for the area. Next up, Old Westbury Gardens. The grounds are massive and incredibly lush, giving off a European manor vibe that kind of reminds me of the South of France. It’s the perfect spot for taking cool photos; the natural light does all the heavy lifting, so there's no need to spend hours editing your shots. On the practical side: I took the train from Penn Station in Manhattan, then grabbed a quick Uber to get to the parks. Honestly, it's super easy and saves you the hassle of renting a car. Food-wise, I just grabbed a quick sandwich on the go nearby. Nothing mind-blowing, but it did the trick. Anyway, if you're looking for a nature getaway not too far from NYC with a mix of history and the outdoors, this is a great option. I absolutely loved it! 🦀
