I'm getting exited because it's one of China's most famous contemporary art districts, housed in a repurposed industrial complex in Chaoyang, Beijing. The 798 Art Zone has kind of industrial art vibe, offering a blend of unique architectural style, diverse galleries & studios, hipster cafes and designer shops. The graffities and large-scale sculptures also creates a photogenic, avant-garde atmosphere. Moreover, the street art, colorful graffiti and unique installations make it a paradise for Instagrammers. There have several galleries which hosted the top contemporary art spaces like UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Galleria Continua and Pace Beijing. These galleries featuring both Chinese and international artists. This is a new area in the center of Beijing, near Zhongguancun area. It includes some connected buildings. You can see many restaurants (chinese, asian and western cuisine), flower shop, an interesting bookstore with original design. On first floor there is an exhibition about science: many pictures from Nature and Science magazine. You can feel some nature in these buildings: there is a small “lake” with a bridge and fish, clouds, plants. On the Apple map, this place is called "Beijing Qiaofu Parkview Green Shopping Centre". For Didi - "Parkview Green Commerce (Beijing Parkview Green Mansion Shop, 9, Dongdaqiao Road, Chaoyang)". For subway - line 6, station "Dongdaqiao". On the one hand, this is a store where different brands (both inexpensive and expensive) are presented. On the other hand, this is a small contemporary art gallery. The first floors are shops, on the 10th floor there is a gallery and a small cafe. But there are several contemporary sculptures on each floor. There are also quite a lot of different restaurants and coffee shops (almost on every floor). Downstairs there is a supermarket with a lot of imported products. “ Where are the art lovers at?” Getting There - Located in No.4, Jiuxianqiao Road, Chaoyang District (北京市朝阳区酒仙桥路4号) one could either take the metro or public bus there. Attractions - Plenty to see around the Art district. I hardly had enough time to explore the whole area. So many little stores and beautiful spots for pictures. Hotels - Beijing surely provides various hotel options. Book one that you’ll be most comfortable with. I booked one in the city center and commuted from there. Food & Restaurants - Beijing overs a wide variety of restaurants. Around the art area you’ll find some coffee shops and local owners selling something. Shopping - If you are an art lover you’ll find plenty shopping opportunities around the area. Overall a must see place. If I can return to Beijing I’d definitely stop here again. It is an understatement to say that Beijing has something for everyone and this colorful gem in the 798 Art Zone is proof of just that. If you are traveling to Beijing you are probably thinking of visiting the Great Wall or the Forbidden City but what about something more edgy and modern... I am very much into the old and historical side of traveling and my partner is into the artsy and off-the-beaten-path types of places. We booked into the East hotel, which is located a few roads away from the Art Zone, so we could cycle to and from in 10-15 minutes depending on the traffic. There are restaurants and art galleries mixed in with vintage shops and an invite-only cocktail bar that is built inside of a train carriage. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make it for our reservation at the cocktail bar but the biker bar next to it during the day was pretty cool all on its own. Getting There - To get there you can take the Subway to either Babaoshan or Yuquan Road (the park is located in between the two stops). The park is divided into East and West Park which are connected by an underpass. The east park is closer to the Yuquan Road subway station. Attractions - In the East park you'll find a large open space with a lot of people flying kites. It's a nice space for running around. The West Park has more sculptures and more trees. Sculptures can be abstract or concrete. Food & Restaurants - It's a nice place for exercising but make sure to take your own water.
