Lake Bled is known as the "Ice Lake" because the meltwater from the snow on the top of the Bled Mountains continuously flows into the lake. It is also known as one of the 30 most beautiful towns in the world. It was a sunny day when I arrived. The lake is surrounded by mountains. Walking around the lake, the scenery is beautiful from every angle! The most special thing about the lake is that there is a small island, Bled Island, on the lake, which is a completely fairy-tale scenery. I think this place is perfectly underrated, absolutely gorgeous! This time I chose to hike here and go to the observation deck to see the scenery, and it was really worth the trip. There are also many things to do nearby: 1️⃣Hiking 🔸Walk along the lake. It takes three hours to walk around the lake. If you include the observation deck and the castle, it will probably take longer. 🔹 Lake Bled has two viewing platforms located on the mountain, called Osoinica and Mala Osoinica. The Mala Osoinica Observation Deck offers a panoramic view of Lake Bled. You have to walk on a muddy road to get there, which is difficult to walk on after the rain. This is the restaurant that every tourist is seeking out when traveling back to Slovenia. You'll find classic Slovenian staples here, very filling, heart-warming, good. I'd go so far as to say comfort food! Our meal here was well-deserved after climbing the stairs up and down from Bled Castle. The decor is classic gostilna style. We felt like we had a very authentic gostilna meal here. As you'll read in the menu, they make it a priority to locally source all of their ingredients. We went to Gostilna Murka and the menu offers a few different selections where you'll find "platter-style" entrees, so if you are looking to try a little bit of everything, I'd suggest these. We ourselves got the classic squid and potato, and creamy pasta, plus they gave you some sides to eat it with. | Slovenia | Bled | Vintgar Gorge | It only took half a day to walk around Lake Bled. I didn’t want to waste the bus fare, but I didn’t know how to spend the rest of the time. Ventgar Canyon might be a good choice. The famous hiking trails in Slovenia are private attractions for foreign tourists. You can avoid the crowds and take a hiking trip. I would describe Vintega Canyon as a mini version of Taroko National Park. It is not too big, but the landforms in the park are complete. There are wooden plank roads along the way built over the winding river valley. The road is quite flat and walking on it is not tiring at all. It is suitable for you who do not exercise. The river is sometimes turbulent and sometimes calm. With the wooden plank road crossing the river and going back and forth between the two banks, it feels like stepping into a primeval forest. The green water of the river is so clear that it rivals the Plitvice Lakes, and even the rotten wood at the bottom of the river can be clearly seen. If you are tired of the crowds at Lake Bled, the Vintgar Gorge is a great option to get out of the city and into the embrace of nature. The zero-pollution natural scenery depends entirely on the self-discipline of tourists. It also implies that Hong Kong people have the same aspirations and practice taking away their own rubbish. Last time when I introduced Lake Bled, I forgot to recommend the cream cake, which is an important symbol of Bled and basically no tourist would miss it. As for the taste, it is a matter of personal preference. |Slovenia|Bled|Lake Bled| The saying "the sky has unpredictable storms" is always true. One second it was clear and clear, the next it was violently stormy. Just after returning to the B&B from Mount Trigraf, it started to rain heavily. Fortunately, I didn't set off on the next route, otherwise I would have had to come to a wild survival story, so I had to stay at the bed and breakfast and wait for the storm to pass. It rained all night, and the morning sky was gray and hazy. After a night in Kraniscagora, the next day we left for Lake Bled, which has long occupied a place on my Bucket List. Lake Bled is an ice-eroded lake, especially with a natural island in the lake with a medieval church built on it, it feels like the whole screen is very fairytale. Walk around the lake and you will see the trail of the church, but personally I feel that it lacks some three-dimensionality and fails to see the full view of the lake. On the west side of the lake are two mountains, Ojstrica and Mala Osojnica, which visitors can climb to the highest point overlooking Bled. The only drawback is that the rain last night made the mud slippery and basically slipped every two steps, so I had to give up halfway to avoid scratches and injuries. Lake Bled gave me a more melancholy, a bit lonely feeling, a bit out of step with the surrounding greenery. Looking at the photos taken by friends in autumn, the leaves have turned orange, the autumn leaves with the church, more that fairy tale-like dream. There will inevitably be some regrets during the journey, take it as an excuse to give yourself an excuse to come again. There are multiple spots around to lake to stop and have a picnic. Bled town has several cafes, shops, and restaurants if you prefer to dine inside. 2️⃣ Vintgar Gorge Hop on a €10 shuttle bus from Bled to the Vintgar Gorge where you’ll find a 1.6km gorge highlighted by the Radovna River and its waterfalls, pools, and rapids. Wearing your safety helmet, you’ll walk through the gorge before strolling through some lush Slovenian forest. Be sure to reserve a time slot for the Vintgar Gorge before arriving as you can only enter at a specific time. 3️⃣ Ljubljana Old Town The Old Town of Ljubljana is known for its charming streets, historic buildings, and vibrant atmosphere. Nestled in the Julian Alps, Lake Bled with its iconic island and clifftop castle is simply breathtaking. The turquoise water, framed by forested hills and snow-dusted peaks, made every angle feel like the perfect photo. What struck me most was the serenity. I started my day with a gentle walk around the lake—it’s a flat, peaceful 6 km trail that took about an hour and a half because I kept stopping to admire the views. Midway, I took a pletna boat (a traditional wooden vessel) to Bled Island. Climbing the 99 stone steps to the Church of the Assumption was magical, and I rang the “wishing bell” as tradition suggests. Later, I hiked up to Bled Castle, perched dramatically on a cliff. The panoramic view from the terrace over the lake is something I’ll never forget. Inside, there’s a museum, a charming wine cellar, and even a medieval printing shop. But the highlight? Enjoying a slice of the famous Bled cream cake (kremšnita) with coffee overlooking the water. Best Time to Visit: Spring (April–June) and Autumn (September–October) offer mild weather and fewer tourists. Winter is magical too—imagine a snow-covered fairytale.
