Whenever I plan a trip, I find myself thinking less about how many famous places I can squeeze into the itinerary and more about whether there’s somewhere I can genuinely slow down. I enjoy those trips where you wake up early and spend the whole day exploring. But every now and then, I want something completely different. I want to step outside and see the ocean, spend an afternoon with absolutely nothing planned, then grab a drink and wait for the sun to go down. Sometimes, that’s exactly the kind of trip we need. There are countless beautiful beaches around the world, but if I had to choose three where the sunset alone makes me want to go, these would be my picks. 🌅 1. Cable Beach 📍 Broome, Western Australia 🇦🇺 Facing the Indian Ocean, Cable Beach is known for its seemingly endless stretch of sand and huge open skies. As evening approaches, warm golden light spreads across the beach while the sun slowly drops toward the ocean. Flic en Flac Beach 📍 Mauritius 🇲🇺 On the west coast of Mauritius, Flic en Flac has a long sandy shoreline, clear turquoise water and that relaxed tropical atmosphere people come to the island for. During the day, the Indian Ocean is beautifully blue. By evening, everything changes as golden and pink light begins to spread across the water. With its west-facing location, this is one of those beaches where you’ll want to stay until the very last light disappears. All three have something special. But if you ask me which one I’d choose for myself, and which one I want to tell you a little more about, it would be Flic en Flac Beach in Mauritius. 🇲🇺 Mauritius looks beautiful even through a screen, but it isn’t only the colour of the ocean that draws me to Flic en Flac. It’s the kind of beach holiday I want to have there. Wake up without rushing. Explore the island if I feel like it. Spend the afternoon by the beach if I don’t. Then, when evening comes, find a comfortable spot and watch the sun disappear over the Indian Ocean. And the next evening? I’d probably want to do exactly the same thing again. If I were travelling all the way to Flic en Flac, I wouldn’t want to arrive just before sunset, take a few photos and leave. I’d rather stay by the coast for a few days and let the beach become part of the trip. For that kind of Mauritius escape, La Pirogue Mauritius would be my pick. 🏨🌴 Set along the Wolmar coastline, the resort has thatched-roof bungalows surrounded by tropical gardens, which suits the island beautifully. Just head towards the beach, feel the breeze coming off the Indian Ocean and watch the sun slowly disappear beyond the horizon. Then have dinner. Tomorrow’s plans can wait until tomorrow. For me, a great beach holiday isn’t measured by how many places I manage to fit into an itinerary.
