The Swiss-style town of Slovenia - Celje
📍Attraction address: Located in eastern Slovenia, this fashionable city that combines a long history with green ecology is the third largest city in Slovenia, known for the Counts of Celje, one of the most important medieval families in Europe.
🚗Attraction transportation: Accessible by both road and rail
👍️Must-visit attractions: Visiting European old towns usually involves three main attractions: the old town, the castle on the hill, and the museum. If there is a lake, it becomes a popular scenic spot; if there are mountains and snow, it is like Switzerland.
As soon as you get off the train, you can see the Old Castle of Celje on the top of the hill. The Old Castle of Celje stands on a hill southeast of the center of the old town of Celje, covering an area of no less than 5,500 square meters. It was once the largest defensive structure in Slovenia and the residence of the Counts of Celje.
Right outside the train station, there is a bus station with a bus to the castle every hour. I was the only passenger on the bus going up the hill, as many tourists prefer to drive themselves. On the way down, I was also the only passenger. I had the chance to chat with the driver. As the bus drove halfway up the hill, I saw the distant scenery that had a Swiss flavor. I mentioned this to the driver, and he started talking enthusiastically. He introduced the local customs and traditions. I asked him about the Slavs in the area, and he said there are very few Slavs here; the people are more similar to Austrians and Italians. There are several viewing platforms inside the castle. Standing in the castle, you can take in the charming scenery of Celje and the surrounding Posavje Mountains.
It is said that Slovenia puts 'love' in its name. In the church of the old town, I encountered a newlywed couple holding their wedding.
