I personally tested the summer resort, and it's cool and hassle-free!
01 Yichang City|Hubei
When bringing children to Yichang, I recommend staying directly near the Three Gorges Visitor Center, downstairs at the pier, so you don’t have to rush in the morning.
🚄 Take a taxi from Yichang East Station for about 20 minutes, so you don't have to panic with your children dragging your luggage.
The Three Gorges People's House and the Three Gorges Dam are two routes. Don't arrange them on the same day. People in the Three Gorges have to take a boat to enter the scenic spot. The boat is windy. Remember to bring extra sun protection clothes for your children. There are not many mountain roads in the scenic area. The trolley can cover most of the way, but the bluestone road is a bit slippery. It is not recommended to bring the elderly here on rainy days. At noon, we had dinner at a farmhouse in the scenic area. The fried potato slices with pork belly and Qingjiang fish head soup were both good. The portion was about $50 per person.
Three Gorges Waterfall is suitable for lunch, ⏰ after two o'clock less people, heavy water fog, help children change into sandals and quick-drying clothes, walk all the way for about two hours, shoes will be wet, do not red. The boat ride at Qingjiang Gallery is relatively long. If children are prone to seasickness, they should stick their seasickness patches in advance. Sitting on the second floor deck is well ventilated and the scenery is more beautiful.
02 Changsha City | Hunan
The heat in Changsha is really hot, but there are many indoor venues, suitable for families who are afraid of the sun. The Provincial Museum must make an appointment on the public account three days in advance. ⚠️ It will be closed on Monday. Don't go there in vain. The exhibits at the Mawangdui Han Tomb are particularly shocking to primary school students. The plain clothes and Mrs. Xinchai are worth a slow look. The air-conditioning in the museum is good enough, so bring a thin coat.
Yuelu Mountain I recommend taking the subway to Hunan University Station, entering from the south gate, first strolling around Yuelu College, then walking up along the Aiwan Pavilion.
⏰ The light is best after 5:30 pm, climb a section to see the panoramic view of the Xiangjiang River, not tired and not sunny. In the snack street on Deng Gao Road at the foot of the mountain, the one with the longest queue for sugar-oil dumplings and stinky tofu is commonly eaten by locals. Don't buy them at the entrance of the scenic spot.
Tianxin Pavilion is suitable for evening visits, the city walls are not high, children can run and jump, and there are many "fly pavilions" (civilian shops) hidden in the alleys of the surrounding old town.
🍜 A lamp and a stupid carrot have to queue for more than an hour. Don't join in the fun with your children. The chili fried pork covered rice in the alley next door, 15 dollars a bowl, is fragrant.
03 Zhenjiang City |Jiangsu
Zhenjiang is an underrated baby-sitting city with few people and slow pace. The three mountains of Jinshan, Jiaoshan and Beigushan are not high. I suggest choosing only two, otherwise the children's feet will surrender first. The legend of Jinshan Temple is many, the white lady flooded Jinshan, children are fascinated to hear, there is a cruise at the foot of the mountain, half an hour, boat ticket 30 dollars, see the whole section of the water scenery.
Beigu Mountain is suitable to go in the evening, climb to the top to see the sunset over the Yangtze River, the wind is strong and cool, ⏰ around six o'clock to just right. The petroglyphs on the mountain are more attractive to adults, and children may find it boring, but the mountain is not high and you can finish the walk in twenty minutes. Jiaoshan needs to take a ferry over, there are many shifts, trolleys to the boat, but there are many mosquitoes on the island, ⚠️ mosquitoes are afraid of water must be brought.
Jurong Maoshan is far from the city, an hour's drive, suitable for chartering a car or driving yourself. There is a sightseeing car on the mountain, so you don't have to climb it yourself. The Taoist temple on the top of the mountain is fragrant and has good air. In summer, it is five or six degrees lower than the city. It is a natural summer resort.
04 Xinzhou City|Shanxi
Summer in Yinzhou is really cool, and you have to cover yourself with a blanket when you sleep at night. The Wutai Mountain Scenic Area is the focus, but don’t think about walking it all in one day, the mountain is too big. If you bring children, I recommend only going to a few core temples around Taihuai Town. There is a cable car at Dailuo Peak for $50 one way, which saves much effort.
⚠️ The climate in the mountains is changeable, raincoats and thin down jackets must be prepared, sunny days at noon, rainy days cold.
Yanmen Pass is in Dai County, about an hour and a half drive from the city of Yinzhou. The wind in Guancheng is strong, and the stairs in the Great Wall section are a bit high. It is not recommended for children who are too young to climb the whole way. It is enough to take pictures in front of Guancheng and see the mountains on both sides.
⏰ Arrive before 10am, good light, few people.
Lao Niu Bay is located in Pianguan, where the Yellow River and the Great Wall meet. The scenery is magnificent, but the distance is long, suitable for chartered car for a day trip. The road will pass many villages on the Loess Plateau where children can see what the kiln cave looks like.
🍜The local farmhouse's oatmeal noodles and lamb soup taste great, 40 dollars per person.
05 Xi'an League | Inner Mongolia
In the Alshan National Forest Park, it is in the early 20s during the day in the summer, and you have to wear a coat in the morning and night. The scenic spot is very large, between attractions to rely on the shuttle, ⏰ The first bus into the mountain at 8 am, first play Tianchi, climb 998 stairs, the children themselves walk half, the remaining half is waiting for the father to carry.
Three Pond Gorge is suitable for a late afternoon walk. The wooden canyon is flat and can be reached by trolley. It is all birch groves and streams along the way, which is extremely cool.
⚠️ There is no formal restaurant in the scenic spot, only cup noodles and snacks. It is recommended to buy bread and fruit inside the city of Alshan the night before. Tuofengling Tianchi is higher than Alshan Tianchi, but there are fewer stairs and more open scenery.
Staying in the city of Aershan at night, Russian-style cabins are very feeling, about 200 dollars per person, dinner eat a meal of Northeastern cuisine, pot bun meat and ground three fresh, children eat two bowls of rice.
🚄 It takes four hours by train from Ulanhot. It is recommended to charter a car. The grassland scenery along the way is even more beautiful than inside the scenic spot.
06 Hanzhong City | Shaanxi
Summer in Hanzhong is a few degrees cooler than in Xi'an. The evening breeze blows by the Han River, which is extremely comfortable. The Shimen Canyon is a must-visit. The canyon is built on a cliff with the turquoise water of Baohe River below. It is exciting and safe for children to walk. The whole journey takes more than an hour and is not tiring.
⏰ Go after 3pm, the sun is blocked by the mountains, cool.
Guhantai is in the city, free, the place is not big, an hour to walk, inside the Hanzhong Museum, not many exhibits, but the environment is quiet, suitable for resting.
⚠️ Closed on Monday, do not schedule on Monday.
The Han Riverside is a great place for babysitting at night. The riverside trails are wide, there are shared bicycles and a children's play area.
🍜The Hanzhong noodle skin and vegetable tofu at the nearby Drinking Machi Snack Street, five dollars a bowl, spicy and sour appetizer, even better than the big hotel. Accommodation is recommended to be booked near Qiaobei Square. The river view room is just over $200. It's very relaxing to see the river view at night.
07 Sanya City | Hainan
The summer heat in Sanya is really hot, but the sea breeze blows, the body feels not so uncomfortable. I recommend Yalong Bay. The beach is flat and the waves are small. Children can go directly into the water. The boat ride takes 40 minutes on Spit Island. If the children are seasick, the whole process will be difficult.
⏰ 7 am to 9 am is the best time to go into the sea, the water is the clearest, the sun is not poisonous.
The sea-based Guanyin in Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone is very shocking. The park is large and you must take a battery car. It costs 30 dollars a person and goes up and down.
⚠️ Vegetarian restaurants in the park are $80 per person, the taste is average, it is recommended to bring some dry food to fill your stomach. The big and small caves are next to the south mountain, so you can walk in one day, but both places are close to the sea. You get a strong sun at noon. Sunscreen is refilled every two hours. A hat and sunglasses are essential.
Accommodation is recommended to book in Dadonghai, close to the city, convenient to eat, 🏨 parent-child hotel about 300 dollars per person, with a swimming pool and children's playground, the hottest time of the afternoon for the children to soak in the hotel, in the evening to go out.
08 Shanghai
Shanghai is hot in summer, but there are many indoor venues, suitable for families who are afraid of the sun. Guangfulin Cultural Site is a good place for my private collection in the past two years, the underwater museum is very special, children can't take their eyes off it, the park is large, trolley friendly, ⚠️ closed on Mondays.
🚄 Metro Line 9 Get off at Songjiang University Town Station and take a taxi for 10 minutes.
Yuyuan is suitable for taking children to see the exquisite gardens of Jiangnan, but weekends are crowded, ⏰ recommended to enter the park at 9 am on weekdays, less people, good light. The snack street in Cheng Wong Temple is too crowded to walk, so don't be crowded with your children. The Nanxiang Bun Shop at the entrance of Yu Yuen offers six crab powder steamed buns for $48. It's expensive, but you don't have to queue.
Disney Resort is a full-day project, if you only play one day, I suggest buying an early access card and entering the park an hour early, before rushing to fly over the horizon and create the extreme speed wheel of light, otherwise queue for two hours to start.
⚠️ Although there is an awning in the queuing area in summer, it is crowded and hot. Portable small fans and ice stickers must be brought. Watching the fireworks display at night, starting at 8:30, occupying a seat half an hour early, the children get tired of holding on to watch, it's twenty minutes anyway.
The Expo Park is now a cultural park. It is free and less crowded. It is suitable for walking in the evening. The exhibitions at the Chinese Palace of Arts are not changed regularly. Check your WeChat account before you go.
Of these eight places, the coolest are Xi'an League and Yinzhou, and the most worry-free are Zhenjiang and Shanghai. Where are you guys planning to go? Talk in the comment section.
