During this time, I found myself at Mount Kurama, renowned for its picturesque railway lined with autumn foliage—a source of pride for the Japanese, young and old alike. The Kurama Railway, also known as the Eizan Railway, is a celebrated route in Kyoto and across Japan. Experiencing this railway felt like a stroke of luck, allowing me to witness a fragment of Kansai's essence. The Kurama Railway transported me into a fairytale-like realm, culminating at its final stop at the base of Mount Kurama, where Kifune Shrine resides. Nestled quietly within the forest, Kifune Shrine offered me a chance to immerse myself in nature and absorb the powerful energy emanating from the surrounding woods and mountains. This experience felt like a form of healing. At that time, as the year filled with challenges and unmet goals was drawing to a close, I carried a sense of heaviness. However, this journey taught me valuable lessons about navigating life in a foreign land and granted me the opportunity to marvel at Kifune's beauty. It is a popular tourist destination, especially among Thai travelers, as it is located not far from Takayama City. Visitors to Takayama can easily travel to this village by taking a bus from Takayama, which takes about an hour. The houses here are uniquely beautiful, featuring steep triangular roofs in a traditional Japanese architectural style that is now rare. While exploring the village, you can take a bus to the viewpoint to see the village from above, offering stunning photo opportunities. This time, there were only two of us traveling and we wanted to try driving ourselves instead of taking the train. It turned out to be both fun and convenient beyond expectations. If you're traveling with a group, it's definitely worth it. The price is almost the same as public transportation, plus you get to see several places in one day. Day trip to Kamakura ✨ We drove out to Kamakura and made our first stop at the Great Buddha — so peaceful in the early morning light, with barely any crowd around. Then dropped by at Komachi Dori Street to browse local snacks and cute souvenirs. After that, we headed to the famous Kamakura Koko Mae Station, finally seeing the iconic ocean view and train passing by with our own eyes (yes, just like in the anime scenes!). Then we took a slow walk along the beach, soaking in the sea breeze before driving back to Tokyo.
