If "vacation" to you means no disturbances, no socializing, and no waiting in lobby lines to check in, then The Hideaway Experience might be your ideal choice. Located on the outskirts of Dundee, this five-star self-catering accommodation consists of five completely independent cottages, each hosting only two adults. Private saunas, outdoor hot tubs, double-sided wood-burning fireplaces, and sound systems covering both indoor and outdoor areas—these amenities make "staying inside the cottage" something to look forward to. It’s worth mentioning that this hotel is also an adults-only five-star property. Location The Hideaway Experience is situated on Balkello Farm on the outskirts of Dundee, surrounded by the open Scottish countryside. It’s about a 15 km drive to Discovery Point in Dundee city center and approximately 35 km to St Andrews, famous for its historic Old Course and Scotland’s oldest university. Behind the accommodation is Balluderon Hill, a gentle hiking spot perfect for a picnic at the summit, offering panoramic views over Angus, Fife, and Perthshire. This location is perfect for guests who want to balance city exploration with rural tranquility. 🏨 Accommodation The entire property consists of five fully independent cottages, spaced to ensure maximum privacy. Each cottage accommodates only two guests, with no provision for extra beds or children. Rooms feature super king size beds, with some offering twin bed configurations upon request. All cottages are non-smoking, with a quiet and restrained atmosphere, free from the usual hotel hustle and bustle, replaced instead by the peacefulness and freedom of the countryside. 🛁 Spa and Facilities The private spa facilities in each cottage are the key differentiator: a private outdoor hot tub, a double bathtub, and a private sauna—all exclusively for your use, not shared with other guests. Inside, a double-sided wood-burning fireplace warms both the living and sleeping areas while creating ambiance. The sound system covers both indoor spaces and outdoor terraces, allowing guests to play their favorite music while soaking or relaxing by the fire. Each cottage also includes a fully equipped modern kitchen, free WiFi, and dedicated parking. Pets are welcome. 🍽️ Self-Catering Experience As a self-catering accommodation, there is no restaurant or room service, but each cottage is equipped with a fully modern kitchen, including a full set of cookware and appliances. Guests can shop for ingredients and cook themselves or arrange for local ingredient delivery in advance. For those wanting to fully relax, there are good dining options in Dundee city and St Andrews, both easily accessible by car. The property also features a cocktail bar area, perfect for an evening drink. 🎯 Surroundings and Activities Beyond the cottage facilities, the most recommended activity nearby is the gentle hike up Balluderon Hill—perfect for a picnic at the summit with sweeping views of Angus, Fife, and Perthshire countryside. Dundee city’s V&A Dundee and the RRS Discovery ship are within a half-hour drive. Golf enthusiasts will find the Old Course at St Andrews also within a reasonable driving distance. Whether you want to fully "stay in" and enjoy the spa or use this as a base to explore the Tay Bay coast, both vacation rhythms are well accommodated. The Hideaway Experience is designed for those who want to be "undisturbed." Five independent cottages, five sets of exclusive spa facilities, five private spaces just for you. If you’re planning a honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply want a quiet place to spend a few days with friends, this offers a way to completely disappear into the Scottish countryside. Balkello Farm, Dundee, DD3 0RA, Scotland

The V&A is an imposing concrete structure designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, sitting at Dundee’s Waterfront Esplanade. Its striking facade provides ample opportunity for photos. Entry is free with the option to visit carefully curated paid exhibitions. The public spaces are generous and airy, the exhibition spaces less so. The free permanent collection documents Scottish design showcasing a wide range of exhibits. At the time of writing there was a mesmerising kinetic installation in the main hall Shylight by Drift. The museum is family friendly with activities to engage younger members of your party. You can visit Tatha Kitchen and bar for a range of home baking, salads, soups and sandwiches as well as tea and coffee. The food is of a high standard and is fresh and inviting. There is an option to sit on the outdoor terrace . There are lockers available, ample clean toilet facilities. You’ll find plenty of benches and seats to stop and enjoy the surroundings.

Often overlooked but full of surprises, Dundee turned out to be one of the most refreshing day trips I’ve had in Scotland. The city sits quietly on the banks of the River Tay, but its spirit is anything but quiet. I started my day at the V&A Dundee — Scotland’s first design museum. The building itself is a work of art, like a futuristic ship rising from the waterfront. Inside, I explored exhibits on Scottish innovation, fashion, and even video games (Dundee is the birthplace of Grand Theft Auto, after all!). Just next door is the legendary RRS Discovery, the ship that carried Scott and Shackleton to Antarctica. Walking its wooden decks while imagining life on polar expeditions was both thrilling and humbling. The museum beside it brings the adventure to life with interactive displays and dramatic storytelling. For lunch, I headed into the West End, where I found a cozy café serving haggis paninis (yes, you read that right — surprisingly tasty!) and oat milk lattes. The vibe in Dundee is effortlessly creative — a mix of students, artists, and friendly locals. In the afternoon, I wandered up to The Law, a dormant volcano offering panoramic views of the city, the Tay Rail Bridge, and the hills beyond. The wind was strong, but the view made the climb more than worth it. Dundee might not be as famous as Edinburgh or Glasgow, but it’s got heart, history, and a bold future. If you love cities with character, stories, and soul — put Dundee on your list.

Getting There - train: Glasgow central — Dundee Attractions - V&A Dundee, Christmas market, contemporary art museum Food & Restaurants - Pancamara food It took us 2 hours by train to get to Dundee. We went to Dundee before Christmas so there was a wee Christmas market there. However, it was small nothing to expect lol The coffee and food at Pancarama were absolutely amazing, which is highly recommended.

I went to St. Paul's Cathedral. Following the abbey, I visited the two major churches in the UK🇬🇧🪜🤤😂 I am always, always moved by it☺️✨ The admission fee is expensive, but it's worth it! In addition, when I visited, students were practicing hymns, and I couldn't help but listen to them🥹 Foreign churches are a symbol of different cultures, and even though I'm not religious, I always try to visit them. If you have the chance, please visit them~😊❣️ #Couple trip #Museum #UK #World Heritage Site #Europe

This statue honors Robert Burns (1759-1796), Scotland's most renowned poet, and is located in the main section of Victoria Embankment Gardens near the Imperial Camel Corps Memorial. Created by Scottish sculptor Sir John Steell, it was unveiled in 1884. Notably, the statue was cast four times, with the other versions housed in New York City (USA), Dundee (Scotland), and Dunedin (New Zealand). The bronze sculpture represents Burns seated in simple, rustic attire, reflecting his identity as the 'ploughman poet' and his contemplative nature. In his right hand, he holds a quill pen, while an open scroll rests near his feet. It is mounted on a granite pedestal engraved with Burns's name, years of life, and a quote of inspiration.

Haymarket station is Edinburgh city's second station. Most westbound trains departing from Waverley station stop here, making it easily accessible. The primary trains servicing this station are ScotRail, with routes to Glasgow, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, and nearby locales. Additionally, LNER and CrossCountry trains connect to other Scottish cities, while Avanti West Coast trains heading to Birmingham and London and TransPennine Express services en route to Manchester and Preston also stop here. The station has five platforms, numbered 0–4. Platform 0 is a bay platform with limited train departures. Escalators, lifts, and staircases efficiently connect the concourse to the platforms. During my visit, I noticed ticket machines readily available along with staff who were very helpful with purchases, assistance, and inquiries. Amenities include an M&S food outlet on the concourse and spots to grab a hot drink. Outside, there’s a bus and tram interchange. Buses provide connections to various city locations and the airport, while the tram also offers a direct route to the airport. The station itself blends ancient and modern architectural styles seamlessly, resulting in a well-designed and practical space.

We have been traveling throughout the UK during the month of August, mostly staying at Premier Inns near each city center. My wife and I have truly enjoyed our experience at these fantastic hotels! We particularly love the unlimited breakfast buffet available at every Premier Inn we've visited. Our journey has taken us to Edinburgh, Dundee, York, Liverpool, Bath, and now the London Tower location! This hotel is conveniently close to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Tonight, we dined at the Premier Restaurant and were fortunate to have Shamin Narmada attending to us. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful dinner. Thank you, Shamin!

Had a fantastic afternoon at Hotel Du Vin. We traveled from Dundee to celebrate our daughter’s birthday with a meal. The staff were outstanding across the board—Reception, Bar, Restaurant, Chef, and Kitchen Porters. The meal was absolutely incredible. Many thanks to all the staff for making it such a memorable day!

This was my first experience staying at a Malmaison hotel, and it certainly won’t be my last. I spent six nights here, from August 5–11, 2025, and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this hotel. The reception team stood out with their friendliness, energy, resourcefulness, and genuine helpfulness. When I faced difficulties making reservations at other Malmaison hotels, one of the reception staff went out of their way to contact those locations and arrange all my upcoming bookings. Their kindness and exceptional service truly eased my travel plans and left a lasting impression. Before this stay, I had never heard of the Malmaison brand. The wonderful experience in York led me to choose Malmaison hotels for the rest of my journey across England and Scotland. I even explored cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, Newcastle, and Leeds—all places I had never visited—because there were Malmaison hotels there. My room at the York Malmaison was modern, spacious, and elegantly designed. It featured a cozy seating area, a mini refrigerator, a large wardrobe, and ample storage space suitable for an extended stay. The bathroom was equally outstanding, equipped with a walk-in shower, a soaking tub, high-quality toiletries, plush towels, robes, and slippers. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring I had excellent nights' sleep throughout my stay. The hotel's rooftop restaurant was another standout feature. Every meal was beautifully presented and tasted amazing, making it one of my best hotel dining experiences during my travels. The hotel was impeccably clean throughout, and all the staff I encountered were warm and welcoming. York itself is very walkable, with the train station, historic sites, and shops conveniently close to the Malmaison. This first experience with Malmaison left such a great impression that I opted for multiple Malmaison hotels during my trip through England and Scotland, even returning to York for another stay. This hotel introduced me to the fantastic Malmaison brand, and I’ve been a devoted fan ever since.

A friend and I took a day trip from Dundee to Kirkcudbright with a very early start as the bus departed from Dundee. The trip cost £20, which was excellent value, and we had about 4 hours in the town—enough time to walk around, enjoy lunch, and visit the museum. Although the weather was mixed, it didn’t affect our enjoyment of the visit. The driver, Daniel, was wonderfully friendly—thanks, Daniel! It was a long day, but we loved exploring this charming town with its lovely gift shops, art galleries, and cafes.

The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is the world's largest museum dedicated to design and decorative arts. Its primary location is in South Kensington on Exhibition Road, near the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. However, the V&A's expansive collection is also showcased at other sites in the UK, including V&A East, V&A East Storehouse, Young V&A, and V&A Dundee. At the South Kensington site, you'll find an extraordinary collection renowned for its strength in fashion, textiles, ceramics, and sculptures. A standout feature here is the Cast Courts, boasting spectacular plaster casts of famous European monuments like Trajan's Column and Michelangelo's David. Other must-see treasures include Tippoo's Tiger, a mechanical marvel from 18th-century India, the Raphael Cartoons, the exquisite Ardabil carpet, and the iconic Great Bed of Ware. The museum offers free entry except for its temporary exhibitions. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring this immense collection. If you're a true museum aficionado like me, you'll likely need a few days to fully experience everything, especially with the engaging interactive displays the V&A has added in recent years.
