York was my second stop during my trip to the UK. It takes about two hours by train from London to reach York. We enjoyed a fantastic 3-night stay at York Lakeside Lodges in Holly Lodge 14 starting on 1st September, and it truly exceeded all our expectations! The lodge, decking, and surroundings were spotless, and the lake views were breathtaking. The location is ideal for visiting York, Harrogate, and Leeds, yet remains peaceful and perfect for a relaxing getaway. It was the most relaxed we’ve ever felt on a UK holiday, and easily our best trip yet. We’re already planning to return at Christmas for the York markets and shopping. Elspeth and Richard are outstanding hosts who have crafted an extraordinary and beautiful home. No detail or expense was overlooked in creating the perfect, authentic English country house (quite stately, indeed!). The thoughtfully chosen furnishings, premium toiletries, and luxurious branded towels, bedding, and accessories really elevated our stay. The master bedroom (Wharfdale) has been renovated to an impeccable standard while remaining true to the charm of this 1754 stone house and barn. We loved the adjacent spacious dressing room and the enormous, luxurious bathroom. The nearby Airedale room was ideal for our mum, making everything incredibly convenient. The gardens, spanning roughly an acre, are stunning—perfectly maintained, colorful, and delightful to wander through or admire from the rooms. Relaxing on the sun loungers with a book or enjoying a glass of wine (complemented by complimentary snacks!) was so blissful that I didn’t want to leave. Their hospitality is flawless. We were welcomed with complimentary drinks (wine for me and beer for my husband) and frequently offered both hot and cold beverages. The breakfast was exceptional, featuring a comprehensive menu with high-end dishes. We enjoyed a Full Yorkshire breakfast, Eggs Royale, and scrambled eggs with salmon. In addition, there were multiple fresh juices, cereals, Greek yogurt with seeds and fruit, and freshly baked croissants with cheese and jams. My dietary requirements for being coeliac and dairy-free were handled with great thoughtfulness, including special products brought in for me during our three-night stay. Traveling to Leeds city center for our son’s graduation was a breeze, as were our day trips to Ilkley and Harrogate, both of which we thoroughly enjoyed. After this phenomenal experience, we’ll never stay in the city again when we visit the area. We’re leaving feeling relaxed, wonderfully cared for, and touched by the genuine warmth of our hosts. Day trip

We traveled to York with Loch Lomond travel for a 3-night stay at the Wheatlands Lodge Hotel. The journey down was delayed by a one-hour late pickup. However, the hotel turned out to be very good, the food was excellent, and while the rooms were somewhat dated, they were very clean. Its location was within walking distance of York city center, offering plenty of attractions and activities. Our day trip to Knaresborough and Harrogate was delightful, and the return journey home was much quicker.

Had a truly beautiful weekend enjoying stunning weather on our coach trip to Harrogate and Knaresborough on Saturday, followed by the Brighouse Vintage 1940's day event on Sunday. Every part of this trip was exceptional, from staying at the clean and charming Leonardo Hotel in Bradford, to the delightful evening meal and breakfast there. Our driver, Mark, was wonderful, going the extra mile for all his passengers. Met wonderful people on the coach, had loads of fun, and even dressed up for the Vintage event on Sunday!

The LNER team has always been incredibly friendly, offering excellent service. I travel frequently between King's Cross and Harrogate, and each time, I’ve been treated wonderfully. It might be thanks to my Cockapoo, who always seems to get special attention. P.S. Hoping the grazing box makes a return!

The queue wasn’t too long yesterday (22 April) , we only had to queue for 10 minutes. You can now book online but it cost more money as I think they put you in an upstairs room and not downstairs where we were and you receive a gift of a box with two chocolates if you book online. We weren’t too bothered about that as part of the tradition of going to Betty’s is queueing and talking to the other people in the queue who come from all over the world. The afternoon didn’t look like it was much food but it was very filling , especially the “Fat Rascal” scone, it was all very delicious and worth the experience of having afternoon tea in such an iconic establishment. #afternoontea #bettystearoom #harrogate
