A backpacker in Monaco
To visit Monaco, I travelled to the city of Nice, 15 kilometres west of this country. If you buy a ticket at the right time, you can get to Nice by train and bus from various European cities such as Milan, Italy (between 20 and 30 euros) and Paris, France (between 25 and 45 euros). There are also flights to Nice from various Schengen countries, operated by Ryanair, Wizz Air and EasyJet, which are sometimes cheaper than buses and trains (because of the flexibility you have in choosing your time and route). The train from Nice airport and the Intercity bus station (next to Terminal 1 of the same airport) to the city centre costs less than 2 euros.
As it is much cheaper to stay in Nice than in Monaco, it makes sense to stay in Nice. When I saw that booking a room at the Hotel de Berne for two people was cheaper than the cost of two beds in a hostel (the total cost for two people is 45 euros per night), we chose this hotel to stay (as opposed to my usual practice of staying in a hostel). It should be noted that the published statistics and costs refer to 27 January 2023, and these costs may change (be more or less) in different seasons or in the coming years.
At sunrise we went to the Nice-Ville station, just 150 metres from our accommodation, to catch the train to Monaco. A one-way ticket from Nice to Monaco and vice versa costs 4 euros each and departures are from around 6am to 11pm (every half hour). We arrived at Monte Carlo station in about 15 minutes and the sightseeing of Monaco began.
Although Monaco was not a common destination for backpackers like us, we did not feel out of place at all.
Best places to visit:
Monte Carlo Casino, Un Jardin d'acclimatation, Port of Monte Carlo, The Prince's Palace of Monaco, Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Oceanography Museum

Iconic casino in Monaco 🇲🇨🎰
#timetotravel
To my friends and I, the building is iconic because of the movie “Monte Carlo” starring Selena Gomez. We tried to take pictures at every filming location we could find!!
The casino of Monte Carlo is really busy and packed with tourists.
To enter the casino, there is an entrance fee of €18 and dress code. You also have to bring your passport along. Since none of us really gamble, so we did not bother entering the casino but merely the lobby for pictures.

Go to the Larvotto Beach
Larvotto Beach
Since we are at the Mediterranean why not go to a beach? This popular, artificial beach features clear waters, a volleyball court & a scenic promenade. Perfect to finish off your day in Monaco.
Entrance is free and the water is crystal clear just like in Sharm El Sheikh. Nearby you will see a few restaurants and bars where you can sit and enjoy your favourite adult beverage.
Although it's a small beach, it's actually not bad considering the size of Monaco. Even if you don't go swimming or sunbathing, you can visit the beach and have a nice walk around.

Monaco is famously the playground of the rich
Monaco is famously the playground of the rich and famous, despite being the world's 2nd-smallest nation. Spanning just 200 hectares, this historic principality features grand casinos, designer malls, opulent bars and clubs, and a human-made beach, attracting celebrities and vacationers year-round.

Le Metropole Shopping Center
Le Metropole Shopping Center is all about luxury living, which is obvious when you see its lavish furnishings of crystal chandeliers, Italian marble floors, and upscale brands. With 80 shops selling everything from gourmet food and beauty treatments to designer clothes and exclusive timepieces, you’ll find most of your shopping needs met under the highly ornate ceiling.
A good spot to escape the summer heat and humidity, you’ll also find a handful of swanky restaurants inside. Great if you need refuelling while you shop. With lots of high-end boutiques and exclusive brands available at Le Metropole Shopping Center, it should be no surprise that things aren’t cheap here. Even if a wild shopping spree isn’t on your itinerary, the window-shopping alone may well make a trip here worthwhile. 😊

[The world
[The world's second smallest country, Monaco]
This is Monaco, the second smallest country in the world, located in the Mediterranean Sea in southeastern France, and it takes 30-40 minutes by car from Nice!! Its official name is the Principality of Monaco. It's a small but legitimate country, so if you visit the Monaco Tourist Information Center, you can get your passport stamped! Many people visit Monaco as part of their tour.! Is it a souvenir? ☺️
Monaco boasts warm weather all year round with its Mediterranean climate, making it one of the countries loved by many travelers🌞 And when you travel around Monaco, you can often see really, really awesome supercars.? I, who loves looking at cars, was so happy✨ Also, the harbor is full of yachts that you would only see in movies. They say you can see this scenery because the yachts of the rich who moved to Monaco, where there is no tax, are anchored💸
Monaco has another charm compared to Nice! It was hot and I was tired of walking around, but it felt like a movie set and the gorgeous atmosphere was really cool🤩

[Monaco] Strolling around Monaco, the land of F1 and the royal family🚶
First, I got an "entry stamp booklet" at the tourist office near the casino. 🛂
It's a small country, but being able to leave behind these special memories is a great thing!
You can get your passport stamped at City Hall, but I went on a closed day, so I gave up. 🥲
After that, I went to the famous hairpin curves and Fairmont Hotel tunnel of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. 🏎️
It was amazing to actually walk the course I'd seen on TV. 🥹✨
There were a lot of F1 fans there!
Next, I headed to the Prince's Palace of Monaco. 🏰
From the square, you can get a panoramic view of Monaco. 👏
You can also see the stadium of AS Monaco, the team Minamino plays for. ⚽️
Finally, I visited St. Nicholas Cathedral. ⛪️
Its white exterior is beautiful, and Grace Kelly is also buried here. 🪦
Monaco may be small, but it's packed with things to see!
You can also get there by train from Italy, so it's recommended for those who enjoy train travel. 🚄

How to Safely Enjoy a Casino: Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco
📍 Monte Carlo (Principality of Monaco)
Casino de Monte-Carlo
Monaco, a small country located in the south of France, is famous as a haven for the wealthy. It is also known for its beautiful harbor and for hosting the world's largest F1 race in spring.
Among Monaco's many attractions, its casinos are particularly renowned.
Do you think casinos in Monaco are exclusive places where only the wealthy, dressed in elegant gowns and suits, can gamble? Actually, the casinos in Monaco are open to the general public for a standard admission fee!
◾️ Admission Fee
Entry Fee: €10
◾️ Hours
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
◾️ About Monaco
Monaco is accessible by train from Nice, France. The currency used is the Euro, so there's no need to worry about money. However, be mindful of your Wi-Fi contract. Prices in Monaco are higher than in France, so it might be a good idea to purchase necessities in France beforehand. While there are no border checks when entering from France, make sure to carry your passport. Thanks to its affluent population, Monaco boasts excellent public safety.
The interior of the casino is breathtakingly luxurious. The spacious venue is lined with numerous gaming tables, offering a unique and surreal experience as you step into areas usually off-limits. It is undoubtedly a must-visit tourist spot when in Monaco.

Step into the movies
The Casino de Monte-Carlo is pure old-school glamour — marble halls, gold trim, and chandeliers that look like they’ve seen a century of secrets. You don’t have to gamble big to soak up the vibe (though watching a high-stakes table is a thrill). Dress sharp, grab a champagne, and pretend you’re in a Bond film for the night. Monaco: Style in Every Step
Monaco is a place that feels like it shouldn’t be real—perched on the cliffs of the French Riviera, polished to perfection, and somehow both compact and grand. With the Grand Prix on, the streets were even more electric than usual, but even without the roar of engines, the glamour speaks for itself.
Monte Carlo is all elegance—graceful architecture, spotless pavements, and the famous Casino gleaming in the sun. Down at the harbour, superyachts bob in impossibly blue water, while cafés hum with quiet luxury.
It’s walkable, photogenic, and surprisingly peaceful in spots—the gardens near the Prince’s Palace and the old town streets offer shade and calm, a world away from the buzz below.
Even as a visitor, it’s easy to feel swept up in the charm. Monaco doesn’t need to shout—it simply sparkles.

Glam Walks and Ocean Views in Monte Carlo
#holidayitinerary Wandering around Monte Carlo was such a fun mix of glam and chill. The whole area feels super polished with fancy cars, shiny buildings, and people dressed like they just stepped off a yacht. But at the same time, it’s really easy to just walk around and take it all in without needing to spend a lot. We strolled past the famous casino, checked out the marina with all the wild-looking yachts, and just soaked in the whole scene.
There are lots of little corners with amazing sea views and quiet spots to sit and relax. Everything is super clean and well taken care of, and it feels safe and welcoming even if you’re not living the high life. The public elevators and stairs help with the hills, which is great. Monte Carlo is definitely a cool stop if you want a taste of luxury mixed with amazing scenery. Would totally come back just to walk around again.

#July2025
Walking into the Monte Carlo Casino is like stepping into a palace of art. Towering columns, golden ceilings, and ornate chandeliers exude the opulence of 19th-century Europe. Even without gambling, simply sitting in a corner and watching the guests pass by is a captivating experience.
Leaving the casino, sunlight streams down onto the Côte d'Azur. Boutiques and champagne bars dot the streets, and the Zegg & Cerlati window displays are truly captivating. This is a city that seamlessly blends luxury and charm, making it worth a visit.
