Hiking Volcán Acatenango. It’s a challenging overnight trek, but 100% worth it. From our base camp at 3,600 meters, we had a front-row seat to Volcán Fuego, which erupts dramatically every 15–20 minutes — lava bursts lighting up the night sky. We camped above the clouds and watched sunrise over a volcano-studded horizon. Epic doesn’t even begin to describe it. Tip: Bring warm layers — it gets very cold at night! --- Tikal – Lost City of the Maya In the northern jungles of Petén lies Tikal, one of the most important archaeological sites of the Maya world. Towering pyramids rise above the rainforest canopy, and howler monkeys echo through the trees. We climbed Temple IV at sunrise — just imagine mist rising over ancient ruins while toucans fly past. It's mysterious, powerful, and humbling. Tip: Go with a guide — the stories behind the temples are mind-blowing. --- Bonus Stops: Lake Atitlán: A peaceful crater lake surrounded by volcanoes and traditional Mayan villages. Great for kayaking, yoga, and shopping for textiles. Antigua Guatemala: A charming colonial town with cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and volcano views at every turn.
