Japan Kyushu Chintai Falls

#Japan Attractions The Falls of the Falls are twin waterfalls on the Ono River in Bungo, Oita Prefecture, Japan. They were listed as a national monument on July 26, 2007. It consists of a large waterfall in the middle of the Ono River and a small waterfall at the confluence of its tributary, the Hirai River. The large waterfall of the Ono River (Figures 1-3) is about 20 meters high and 100 meters wide, and the small waterfall of the Hirai River (4-5) is about 18 meters high and 4 meters wide. This row of columnar joints is also known as the "Niagara of the Bungo". Both waterfalls were formed by erosion from valleys that were buried when Mount Aso erupted about 90,000 years ago. Maybe this is just an unknown waterfall in the Chinese world, but it has been a famous waterfall in Japan since ancient times. In 1476 during the Muromachi period, the ink painter Xuezhou visited here and painted an ink painting "Shizuota Falls". The Shizuta Falls were later destroyed by fire during the Great Kanto Earthquake, leaving only Kano Tsunenobu's copy, which is now treasured in the Kyoto National Museum. According to the Bungo Kokushi, the basin of this waterfall is a dangerous place, with the description of "the depth of the abyss cannot be measured". Therefore, in the Gang clan of the Jianghu era, when it was impossible to decide whether to punish, the defendant was punished by "sinking", that is, going down a 20-meter-high waterfall. If he swam out safely, he would be acquitted, but it is said that only one person survived.
