诸葛酿 - Chengdu's Flavours with a Twist

If you are looking to savour Chengdu cuisine in a setting that is a little more special, 诸葛酿 is definitely worth a visit. Located along the bustling Chunxi Street, this themed restaurant stands out with its striking, grand exterior—complete with a short stairway leading up to its entrance. Just follow your map and you won’t miss it. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by an impressive towering wall of preserved jars that stretches from the second floor all the way down to the first. It is quite the sight and sets the tone for what’s to come. We chose to dine on the second floor to enjoy a view overlooking the street below. The menu is extensive, and we took the chance to try dishes we had never encountered in Singapore—because why not, right? One of the highlights was their signature Guoba Chicken, served in a heated wooden jar. At first, we did not realise there was a ‘correct’ way to eat it—we eagerly started munching on the crispy rice (Guoba) before the sauce arrived. A waiter rushed over, slightly panicked, to stop us and explained that the rich chicken-and-pork gravy needed to be poured over the rice while it was still sizzling hot. Slightly embarrassing, but a fun memory nonetheless! Another dish that surprised us was something that looked like a sweet green bean kueh. We assumed it was a dessert, but biting into it revealed a savoury pork filling—it was actually a dim sum dish in disguise. An unexpected twist that made it all the more memorable. But the standout for me was the fried chicken dish topped with aromatic fritters and a generous amount of chilli flakes. Think 辣子鸡, but elevated—spicy, crispy, and packed with flavour. Hands down, the best version I have had! All in all, 诸葛酿 offers great food, a vibrant atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Whether you're a fan of Sichuan cuisine or just curious to explore, this is a spot you shouldn’t miss when visiting Chengdu.
