Obibi Chengdu: Where Milk Tea Meets Panda Magic

#chengdufood If you’re visiting Chengdu—the hometown of the giant panda—you can’t leave without indulging in a little panda-themed fun. One of the cutest stops I discovered on my trip was Obibi, a panda-themed milk tea shop that blends adorable aesthetics with seriously good drinks. Located in a trendy corner of Chengdu, Obibi is the kind of place that catches your eye from the street and pulls you in with its playful charm. The moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted by a whimsical world of pandas—everywhere. From panda plushies perched on the shelves to panda ears on the drink cups, this shop fully commits to its theme in the most delightful way. The interior is bright and cheerful, with soft pastel tones and cozy seating areas that make it perfect for hanging out with friends or snapping some Instagram-worthy shots. But Obibi is more than just a cute face—it delivers on taste, too. Their signature drink, the “Obibi Panda Milk Tea,” is a must-try. It’s a rich, creamy milk tea topped with chewy black sugar pearls and crowned with a layer of fluffy panda-shaped milk foam. It’s almost too cute to drink—almost. The flavors are well-balanced: not too sweet, with a deep, roasted tea aroma that shows they care about quality. Another highlight was their “Bamboo Charcoal Latte,” which has a smoky, earthy flavor and comes with panda paw prints dusted on top. They also offer a wide variety of fruit teas and cheese foam options, as well as customizable sugar and ice levels—perfect for anyone who knows exactly how they like their bubble tea. The staff at Obibi are friendly and welcoming. Even though I don’t speak much Mandarin, they were patient and helpful, pointing out their bestsellers and even recommending a panda-themed snack to go along with my drink: a mochi roll filled with black sesame and cream. Soft, chewy, and full of flavor—it was a perfect pairing. Obibi is clearly a favorite among locals, especially students and young adults, and it’s not hard to see why. The shop has a relaxed, happy vibe, and you’ll likely find yourself smiling just being there. It’s also a great spot for souvenirs—everything from panda-themed keychains to limited-edition cups is available for sale. Tips for Visiting: • Weekends can get crowded, so if you want a quieter experience (and better photo ops), try visiting in the late morning on weekdays. • Their menu changes seasonally, so keep an eye out for limited-time panda drinks or holiday specials. • If you’re visiting with friends, order a few different drinks to share—you’ll want to try more than one!
