Brunei: Breathtaking skies and mosques and lively coffee culture

The mosques are so beautiful in Brunei. I went to SOAS Mosque and Jame Asri Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, both mosques had friendly staff. For tourists who are non-Muslim, there are designated times to visit the mosque so you better check the times early. But for local and foreign Muslims it's free to visit anytime to pray. You wouldn't find a sky like Brunei in anywhere else of the world. Especially during the golden hour. The Empire Hotel has multiple photo ops and you can enter their beautiful beach free of charge. Kampung Ayer if you're not prone to sea sickness will be a fun adventure for you to explore the Kampung on boat. You could also take a boat ride to see the proboscis monkey and exotic birds of Brunei in their natural habitat in the rainforest. There are several malls and coffee shops scattered across Brunei. I tried Tuangtia which means "Just pour it" in Brunei language. Coffee was 8/10. You must try Ambuyat, the national dish of Brunei. It's a staple food in Brunei where people eat it with condiments like ikan goreng, carrots and sambal, stir fried kangkung and cacah tempoyak. You eat with candas which is like chopsticks that are conjoined at the edge for easier grip when you twist the ambuyat. When you eat it, you have to swallow it although it's even hard for me to just do that, I still have to chew. It's a savoury taste that fills and warms up your stomach. Brunei is underrated and a must-see. Despite the stigma surrounding this country, I say that other tourists should open their hearts to this country. Brunei is a multi-cultural country with very friendly good-mannered people. When you cross the road in the Mall Gadong, people stop their cars to let you cross. Although not lively during the night, it's peaceful. There's no noise pollution. If you want a healing spiritual retreat and take a break from the usual city life, you can visit Brunei.
