Mo Yan's Former Residence in Gaomi

Mo Yan's Former Residence is located in Ping'an Village, Dalan Township, Gaomi City, Shandong Province. It is an old house built in 1912. From 1955 to 1976, Mo Yan lived here for about 22 years, from birth to joining the army. Until 1988, Mo Yan bought a house in Gaomi County (now Gaomi City), and his family moved out of the old house. In 1990, Mo Yan's parents also moved from here to Mo Yan's second brother's house, and the old house was left vacant. The old house is a 5-room adobe house with a total area of more than 60 square meters, facing south. Inside the house, there are still some old objects used by Mo Yan decades ago. There is an east-west adobe wall more than one meter high, and a courtyard in front of the door, with an area of about 100 square meters. Since Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012, Mo Yan's Former Residence has become a new attraction for domestic tourists. Many people even take a handful of soil from the old courtyard and sprinkle it at home to "get some literary spirit." Mo Yan, whose real name is Guan Moye, is a famous contemporary Chinese writer and the only Chinese writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
