Since its opening, Ocean Park has received over 140 million visitors. In response to public health and safety concerns caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus disease epidemic, the park has experienced four closures. The first time was closed on January 26, 2020, reopened on June 13, and temporarily closed again on July 14 due to the worsening third wave of the epidemic. It resumed on September 18. It was closed again on December 2 due to the outbreak of the fourth wave of the epidemic and reopened on February 18, 2021. It was closed again on January 6, 2022 due to the outbreak of the variant pneumonia and reopened on April 21, 2022. In mid-May 2020, Hong Kong Ocean Park requested the government to invest 5.4 billion yuan in operating costs.
