Kowloon Walled City Light and Shadow Journey: A Movie Scene Exhibition

The Hong Kong Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Creative Industries Development Office under the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, has launched the "Kowloon Walled City Light and Shadow Journey" movie scene exhibition at Kowloon Walled City Park. This exhibition takes visitors on a journey through time to revisit iconic scenes from the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Picture winner, "Kowloon Walled City: Besieged." Open from May 24, 2025, the exhibition is located at the park's Yamen, the original site of the Walled City, and offers free admission. It will run until September 2025, with opening hours from 9 AM to 6–7 PM daily. Meticulously crafted by professional film art teams, the exhibition features 1:1 scale recreations of movie scenes, bringing back the Kowloon Walled City that was demolished in the early 1990s. Visitors can immerse themselves in the realistic alleys of the Walled City, experiencing the daily lives of its former residents. For the first time, large-scale projection technology is incorporated to simulate the dramatic sound and visuals of airplanes flying over the Walled City, offering an immersive sensory experience. The exhibition integrates traditional local craftsmanship to intricately showcase the unique architectural style of the Walled City, highlighting the exceptional creativity and set design skills of Hong Kong filmmakers. Beyond recreating movie scenes, the exhibition narrates the glorious history of Hong Kong cinema, portraying the Walled City as a cultural symbol of Hong Kong. Strolling through the interplay of light and shadow, visitors can feel the captivating blend of Hong Kong's cinematic artistry and the historical charm of the Walled City.
