Introduction to the Court of Final Appeal in Hong Kong

The Court of Final Appeal Building, located at 8 Jackson Road, Central, Hong Kong, serves as the highest appellate court in the judicial system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, equivalent to the supreme court in other jurisdictions. It is conveniently accessible via the Central MTR Station exits J (J1/J2) and K, as well as multiple bus routes. For tram users, alight at the HSBC/Statue Square stop. Completed in 1912, the building originally housed the Supreme Court. Its architectural style is neoclassical, incorporating Far Eastern design elements. The structure is grand and imposing, featuring towering granite columns, triangular pediments, and Ionic and Doric pillars. The three-story building is supported by a foundation of 1,447 fir wood piles. Atop the pediment stands a blindfolded statue of Themis, the Greek goddess of justice, symbolizing fairness. Designated as a declared monument in 1984, the building holds significant historical and cultural value. From 1985 to 2011, it served as the Legislative Council Building. On September 7, 2015, after restoration, it officially became the new home of the Court of Final Appeal. Visitors can admire the building's exterior, with some areas open for public tours.
