Hong Kong Heritage Museum's exhibition on ancient Chinese women's cultural relics ends at the end of this month. Citizens should not miss it

The "Hong Kong Jockey Club Presents Series: Searching for Her in the Crowd - Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Female Artifacts from the Nanjing Museum" currently being held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum will end on February 27 (Monday). The exhibition features 118 sets of splendid exhibits from the Nanjing Museum, all of which are being exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time. They include daily necessities, accessories, embroidery and calligraphy and painting by ancient talented women, and paintings of ladies by famous artists of all dynasties. Among them, 21 sets of treasures are national first-class cultural relics, which are extremely rare. Citizens who do not want to miss the exhibition are advised to visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum at 1 Man Lam Road, Sha Tin during the remaining exhibition period. The exhibition consists of four parts, showing the audience the fashion, wisdom, talent and life of ancient women from multiple angles, and displaying the essence of China's excellent traditional culture and art. The first part revolves around the changing fashion trends in women’s hairstyles, makeup, and clothing throughout the ages. Key exhibits include a national first-class cultural relic, a 13-meter-long scroll painting from the Qing Dynasty titled "Ancient Ladies Enjoying Pleasure". This silk handscroll leads the audience through more than 20 activity scenes such as bamboo forests, gardens, corridors, and pavilions. The audience can learn about the rich and colorful leisure activities of ancient women, like a large atlas of ancient entertainment; the "Music and Dance Figurines" show the graceful dancing posture of a Tang Dynasty girl in Hu clothing, presenting the beauty of ancient women. The second part allows the audience to understand the lives of women from different classes in ancient times through the daily necessities and accessories of ancient women. The national first-class cultural relic exhibit "Jin Dynasty Crown" is a headdress worn by women who were awarded titles in the Qing Dynasty when attending grand occasions. It symbolizes the status and glory achieved by ancient women. The third part brings together calligraphy, painting, embroidery and elegant stationery by talented women of all ages, showing the outstanding talents of ancient women. Exhibits not to be missed include the vertical scroll "Flowers and Butterflies" by Ma Quan, a boudoir painter in the Qing Dynasty; and "Portrait of American Actress Beck", a classic work by late Qing embroidery master Shen Shou. She incorporated the light and shadow perspective of Western paintings into traditional Suzhou embroidery needlework, presenting the texture of human skin and clothing with a high degree of realism. The fourth part allows the audience to get a glimpse of the tragic and happy life of legendary women through the female images portrayed by the artist. Highlights include the hanging scroll Li Duanduan's Settlement by Tang Yin, one of the four great painters of the Ming Dynasty, which depicts the anecdotes of the Tang Dynasty poet Cui Ya and the famous prostitute Li Duanduan. This exhibition has incorporated a number of multimedia interactive elements. Visitors can use interactive games to freely match ancient women’s hairstyles, accessories and makeup to design their ideal ancient female look; or select auspicious patterns from the exhibits to create a unique ancient-style mobile phone wallpaper; or take photos using Instagram filters from local artist Messy Desk’s paintings. In response to this exhibition, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum has specially produced the "Women Searching for Their Hong Kong Stories" segment, allowing the audience to discover the image of contemporary Hong Kong women through the experiences of four independent Hong Kong women, including the famous image counselor Lau Tin-lan, world-renowned cyclist Lee Wai-she, radio host Wong Ching-yee (Ah Zheng) and trainee fire captain Yao Pui-yin, as well as the museum's popular culture collections. The exhibition admission fee is $10, with half-price discounts for full-time students, senior citizens and people with disabilities. Free public guided tours are available at 12:45pm and 3:15pm daily (except Tuesday) in Cantonese; 12:00pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in Mandarin; and 3:45pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in English. The museum also offers a series of free programmes for the public to participate in, such as embroidery workshops, Chinese classical dance performances and lectures. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Nanjing Museum, jointly planned by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the Nanjing Museum, and exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. It is one of the many projects organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with a grant of HK$630 million from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, demonstrating that the Hong Kong Jockey Club will continue to uphold its purpose of building a better society and walk side by side with Hong Kong. To protect public health, all persons entering indoor venues managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department must wear masks. #goodplacestodischarge #discharge #goodplacesforfamily #holidayfamilytravel #localtravel #goodplacesinhongkong #goodplacesonweekdays #goodplacesonweekends #goodplaces #localfamilytravel #familytravel #parents #familyactivities #check-inattractions #check-in #hklifestyle #hkdaily #hkiger #hkig #hongkong #hk #instadaily #travelhk #discoverhk #explorehongkong #exploringhongkong
