Mount Huangshan

Mount Huangshan, one of the top ten famous mountains in China, is known as the most extraordinary mountain under heaven. It is located within the territory of Huangshan City in the southern part of Anhui Province and boasts 72 peaks. The main peak, Lotus Peak, rises 1864 meters above sea level and is one of the three main peaks of Huangshan, along with Bright Summit and Celestial Capital Peak, and is one of the 36 major peaks. Mount Huangshan is the symbol of Anhui's tourism and the only mountainous landscape among China's top ten scenic spots. Mount Huangshan was originally named 'Yi Mountain' because the peaks are dark green and black in color, which from a distance appear dark blue. Later, it was renamed 'Huangshan' after the legend that the Yellow Emperor, Xuanyuan, practiced alchemy here. The representative landscapes of Huangshan include 'Five Wonders and Three Waterfalls.' The Five Wonders are: peculiar pines, grotesque rocks, sea of clouds, hot springs, and winter snow; the Three Waterfalls are: the Renzi Waterfall, the Hundred-Foot Spring, and the Nine-Dragon Waterfall. The Welcoming Guests Pine of Huangshan symbolizes the warm and friendly spirit of the people of Anhui, embodying the culture of Eastern etiquette that embraces the world. The Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake, upon ascending Mount Huangshan, exclaimed: 'Among the famous mountains within and beyond the seas, none is like Huangshan of Huizhou. Having ascended Huangshan, there are no other mountains to see, the view is supreme!' This has been extended by later generations to mean 'After returning from the Five Great Mountains, one does not look at mountains; after returning from Huangshan, one does not look at the Five Great Mountains.'
