Mevlana Museum

The Mevlana Museum is home to a Dervish school whose mission was to persuade the Christian population of Anatolia to convert to Islam. The school was founded in 1774 by the Islamic mystic Mevlana Gelaleddin Rumi. Rumi traveled to Konya at the invitation of the Seljuk Sultan to write mystical poetry in Persian. He was appointed as a philosopher at the court of King Aleddin Daykubat. He met the Islamic priest Semsi Tebrizli and together they devised a method of meditation by walking in circles while listening to the reed flute. Today, this dance is still performed on December 17th every year, as it is the day of Rumi's death, and is considered a festival in his memory. They believe that it is a way to purify the soul, in the hope of meeting God and becoming one with God. Rumi also teaches the belief in patience, love, forgiveness, respect for the freedom of others, the light of wisdom, and the promotion of monogamy. #Waiting for the day to travel
