After five years of war that exhausted their respective national strengths, legend has it that the Thai and Burmese sides made a bet that if Thai Prince Naresuan won the cockfighting competition, Myanmar would return Ayutthaya to Thailand. The result was that Prince Naresuan's rooster won the competition. The prince returned home and became king. Ordinary Thais believe that roosters bring good luck and prosperity.
