[Kyoto Prefecture] The former home of Amaterasu Omikami

Motoise Konojinja Shrine ⛩️ 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 Motoise Konojinja Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Tango Province Before moving to Ise, Amaterasu Omikami lived with Toyouke Omikami, hence the name "Motoise". It all began when Hikohoakari no Mikoto descended to this land in the Age of the Gods. Toyouke Omikami was enshrined in Manaihara. Manaihara is the present Manai Shrine. Amaterasu Omikami moved to this land because of the presence of Toyouke Omikami, and lived with Toyouke Omikami for four years. This is said to be the only place in Motoise where Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami lived together. Amaterasu Omikami moved to Ise during the reign of Emperor Suinin, and Toyouke Omikami was called by Amaterasu Omikami and moved there about 450 years later during the reign of Emperor Yuryaku. The main deity was then made Hikohoakari, and the shrine was renamed Kagomiya. The name Kago comes from the story that Hikohoakari rode in a bamboo basket boat to Umijingu (Ryugu, Tokoyo?). It is also said to be the origin of the Urashima legend, with Urashima Taro being considered an incarnation of Hikohoakari. The Kaifu clan, who have been hereditary priests for generations, are the 83rd generation descendants of Hikohoakari. Hikohoakari is the grandson of Amaterasu Omikami, and was bestowed with the Hetsukagami and Okitsukagami mirrors by Amaterasu Omikami when she descended to earth; their existence was revealed in 1987.
