Over 90-Year-Old Eel Restaurant

It takes about fifteen minutes to get from Oasis 21 to Bakuroichidai (Sakae), a restaurant specializing in Hida beef. When we arrived, the restaurant was already full. Since my mother was too tired, we decided to dine at Unagi, Shidaime Kikukawa on the same floor. The staff were very friendly and seated us at a spot with a view of the Nagoya cityscape (I forgot to take a photo). I ordered the 1600 yen Umaki. Although the texture of the egg wasn't particularly fluffy, it paired well with the eel. My mother chose the 3680 yen Shidaime Kikukawa Red and White Set. This set includes eel prepared in two different ways: Shirayaki and Kabayaki. Visually, there wasn't a noticeable difference, but my mother said one was saltier while the other was milder. When eaten hot, the eel was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My mother loved both flavors. The set also included two types of sashimi, a small bowl, soup, rice, clear soup, and pickles. My father ordered the 3580 yen Ladies' Set. Since this set included jelly eel, we ordered it for my father. He said the jelly eel was very unique. The eel was prepared as Kabayaki and the set also included salad, vinegar-marinated seaweed, white rice, clear soup, pickles, condiments, and dessert, which was pineapple. After returning to the hotel, I looked up some information online and found that this eel restaurant has been around for over 90 years and raises its own eels.
