Phra Pathom Chedi: The sacred stupa of Nakhon Pathom

Phra Pathom Chedi is located in Mueang Nakhon Pathom District. It is the largest and oldest pagoda in Thailand. It is believed to have been built during the Suvarnabhumi period and was extensively renovated during the reign of King Rama IV of the Rattanakosin period. The pagoda is shaped like a bell in Sri Lankan style, decorated with beautiful yellow tiles. It is surrounded by a chapel and small pagodas. Inside is enshrined Phra Ruang Rojanarit, a sacred Buddha image that is the center of faith for the people of Nakhon Pathom and Buddhists throughout the country.
