The Longji Rice Terraces, a place you must visit every year, and remember to find a good girlfriend

The Longji Rice Terraces are located in Longji Town, Ping'an Village, Longsheng Various Nationalities Autonomous County, Guangxi. They cover an area of about 70.16 square kilometers, encompassing Xiaozhai, Dazhai, Ping'an, Longji, and other 11 administrative villages. It is 20 kilometers away from Longsheng County and 80 kilometers away from Guilin City. The Longji Rice Terraces are in a subtropical monsoon climate zone, with a humid climate and concurrent heat and rain throughout the year. The mountains where the Longji Rice Terraces are situated have a maximum altitude of 1850 meters and a minimum of 300 meters. The soil for cultivation is formed from the weathering of metamorphic clastic rocks of the Jixian System Banxi Group, which dates back about 800 million years. The terraces have a vertical height difference of over 860 meters, with the steepest slope approaching 50 degrees. In this mountainous environment, which seems unsuitable for human production and life due to its high altitude difference and steep slopes, villages of various sizes are scattered in an orderly manner, with wooden stilted buildings layered on top of each other, and stone bridges and paths crisscrossing the landscape. The customs of more than ten ethnic groups, including the Zhuang, Yao, Miao, and Dong, converge and blend here, forming a unique cultural tapestry. The Longji area has 33 perennial streams and brooks that bring in rainwater from higher areas outside the region and water conserved by forests, providing most of the irrigation water for the terraces. The Longji Rice Terraces have a history of more than 2300 years, with the terraced farming method taking shape during the Qin and Han dynasties and reaching its current scale in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The scenic area was developed for tourism by the Longsheng Tourism Corporation of Longsheng County in 1992 and was established in 1999. The Longji Rice Terraces have a total of 800 mu of rice fields, with three major scenic areas: the Ping'an Zhuang Ethnic Terraces Scenic Area, the Jinkeng Red Yao Terraces Scenic Area, and the Longji Ancient Zhuang Village Terraces Cultural Scenic Area, with the Ping'an Zhuang Ethnic Terraces Scenic Area being the first to be developed. In 2010, the Longji Rice Terraces were upgraded to a national AAAA-level scenic spot. In 2018, at the 5th Global Forum on Important Agricultural Cultural Heritage, the Longji Rice Terraces, as part of the 'Southern China Rice Terraces', were awarded the title of 'Globally Important Agricultural Cultural Heritage'. In December 2020, the Longji Rice Terraces were accepted into the list of National Wetland Parks announced by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration after passing an inspection. In December 2022, Dazhai Village of the Longji Rice Terraces was successfully selected as one of the 'Best Tourism Villages' officially announced by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. As of 2023, the Longji Rice Terraces scenic area has welcomed visitors from more than 20 countries and regions. At the Longji Rice Terraces, you can taste local specialties such as ferns, bamboo shoots, cauliflower, cured meat, and more.
