Visit Qitang Old Street and the Rainbow Stairs

Qitang Old Street in Jinguashi, Ruifang, New Taipei City, boasts a history of over a century. Known for its tranquil and nostalgic atmosphere, it has remained largely untouched by commercialization. Recently, it has gained popularity due to the vibrant Rainbow Stairs. Located above the Gold Museum, this area was once a bustling commercial hub for miners during the Japanese colonial period. It was established as a settlement for Taiwanese miners leasing land from Japanese mining companies. Often referred to as "Jinguashi Ginza" or "Jinguashi Old Street," the settlement was built along the mountain slopes. While some residents still live here, the area retains its original charm as a mountain town, offering a stark contrast to the more commercialized Jiufen Old Street. Both Qitang Old Street and Jiufen Old Street are mountain towns that thrived as commercial centers during the mining boom. However, with the decline of the mining industry and population migration, Qitang Old Street has become a quieter destination. Visitors can explore its unique Japanese-style architecture, wander through the mountain paths, and soak in the nostalgic ambiance.
