🇰🇷 Changgyeong: The Palace of Tragedy

Changgyeong Palace was one of the grand palaces of Joseon dynasty. Lots of tourist usually take a chance to visit there as it is connected and adjacent to Changdoek Palace where is more famous and has been added to the UNESGO World Heritage. BUT since you are reading what I am writing about the Chaggyeong from now on, you might not TAKE A CHANCE to visit there but you might INTENTIONALLY visit there with memorial because of the engraved tragedy behind the palace. Not many people know this. The Changgyeong was where the most tragic story of Joseon dynasty took place. A crown prince, Sado, was executed to death in a small rice chest at this palace by his father King Yeongjo. He was imprisoned in the chest with no food and water for seven days till death. Yeah, it was cruel. But we must understand that his father was pressed to do as Crown Prince Sado was abnormal and killed people in the palace, and his father as the ruler must prioritize the public. But (again) Sado’s abnormality was mainly caused by his father’s mistreatment to him. However, King Yeongjo finally felt so sorry and guilty for the happenings. What a tragic history!
