STAR Art Museum

STAR Art Museum is located at 111 Ruining Road, at the northernmost end of Xuhui West Bund and the starting point of Art West Bund. The museum began construction in 2014 and officially opened to the public in 2022. It mainly features contemporary art and has become a new landmark of Art West Bund. The building's exterior is divided into three parts: the main part of the exhibition hall, the crane by the river, and the train next to the exhibition hall. Through exquisite design, the three parts are organically integrated, giving the museum a sense of beauty that combines modern fashion and traditional industry. This design is inspired by the history of STAR Art Museum. It was once the site of the first sea-land transshipment railway platform in modern Chinese history, the "Rihui Port Warehouse." Goods transported by sea were hoisted by cranes and stored in the warehouse or loaded onto trains. The museum retained these designs during its construction, and the exterior of the main exhibition hall also incorporates the shape of the warehouse at that time. Reflected in the glass curtain wall, the sparkling waves of the Huangpu River, the huge crane that has been preserved to this day, and the cargo ships slowly passing by, all bring history back to life.
