Fuji to the northeast and containing Suruga Bay and Miho no Matsubara below. This landscape, which overlooks the mountains, sea, and sky, has been a subject of art since ancient times, and many artists have created masterpieces as a majestic subject likened to Chinese landscapes. The Nihon-daira Yume Terrace was built in 2018 on the summit of Nihon-daira. It is an observation deck that literally boasts a 360-degree panoramic view, and its charm is outstanding. Furthermore, the unique wooden building designed by Kengo Kuma (1954-) is dome-shaped but deliberately incorporates subtle misalignments and distortions, which do not interfere with the horizontal line of sight formed by the mountain shape of Mt. Serizawa had aspired to be a painter or designer since he was young, and he was inspired by Muneyoshi Yanagi (1889-1961), the leader of the Mingei movement, and he threw himself into the movement, making use of his knowledge of design and crafts. In addition, his encounter with the traditional Ryukyu Kingdom dyeing technique "Bingata" marked a turning point for him, and he embarked on the path to becoming a dyeing artist, focusing on the ancient "katazome" dyeing technique. His works, which feature geometric patterns that appeal to the complex spirituality of the Japanese people and scenes and cultural objects that retain a simple elegance, are colored with unique colors and textures, and are so unique in their artistic quality that anyone can recognize them as "Serizawa Keisuke's work," and they have won many enthusiasts. During his lifetime, Serizawa donated his own collection of crafts from around the world to his hometown, Shizuoka City, which led to the opening of the museum. It was designed by Shirai Seiichi (1905-1983), who was nicknamed the "philosophical architect" for his unique use of light and shade. In later years, this museum, which became known as Shirai's masterpiece, fully demonstrates his unique skills, with elements of wood and water placed throughout the building, based on the solid, high-quality feel of stone, creating a space for viewing that exudes dignity and serenity. The fact that the museum is located inside the Toro ruins, known as one of Japan's leading ruins from the Yayoi period, is not unrelated to this concept.
