Okayama 𓂃 𓈒𓏸 Sosha Bitchukokubunji Temple Bitchukokubunji Temple is one of the Kokubunji temples built throughout Japan at the request of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period. It was built with the aim of protecting the country from natural disasters and famines with the help of Buddhism. The building that remains today was rebuilt during the Edo period. A five-story pagoda about 34 meters high stands in the precincts, and is famous as a representative view of Kibiji. This five-story pagoda, the only one in Okayama Prefecture, is designated as an Important Cultural Property. In front of Bitchukokubunji Temple, the ancient rice "Sosha Red Rice" is cultivated.
