Taipei Affordable No-Menu Omakase

Went to the restaurant for dinner on 26/3/2011, cost $1,600 +10% per person, a total of 17 courses. This is not my first time to eat Omakase, but after the overall experience, I feel that this restaurant may not be suitable for guests who are trying Omakase for the first time. We were seated at 19:30 on the day of the meal. There were two other groups of guests who arrived later. However, after we were seated, we found that the chef had already cut 3-5 kinds of sashimi in advance. Therefore, the guests who arrived later could basically not see the chef preparing the sashimi on the spot. They could only see him kneading rice, which made the experience a little insufficient. In addition, the chef was relatively quiet that day, only briefly explaining the fish species and having little interaction with the guests. As for sushi, we are used to enjoying it in one bite, but sushi rice is relatively loose and easy to fall when picking it up or putting it into the mouth. However, the Hokkaido sweet shrimp paired with Japanese yellow mandarin oranges, yellowtail, and abalone liver sauce rice all performed well and were the more satisfying items of the day. In terms of service, the restaurant staff is relatively old. When you are seated, they will ask about the food you avoid and whether you need alcohol. I specifically told them that I don’t eat onions, but when the second dish of steamed clams in a tea bowl was served, it was still sprinkled with onions. The staff later discovered it and helped to replace it. I have to thank them for handling this matter. During the meal, the service staff will ask whether you want to purchase the limited ingredients of the day (such as wagyu beef, prawns, grilled fish, and beef tongue), but you must ask the price separately. It is recommended to confirm the price in advance to avoid disputes when checking out. It's a pity that the service staff only started to refill the tea and side dishes (ginger slices and pickled radish) in the second half of the meal. However, I had already finished the pickled radish but didn't get any refills, while other guests did get refills of side dishes. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the fact that we didn't purchase any additional meals. In addition, there were about 2-3 service staff that day, but their overall attitude was rather cold and their expressions were not very friendly, which reduced the service experience. Overall, at this price, you may want to choose other Omakase restaurants to get better service and dining experience.
