The old stories of Shanghai's alleys: Tianzifang

Located in the old Shanghai Dapuqiao area, it used to be just an alleyway on Taikang Road. Tianzifang's original name was 'Zhichengfang', built in the 1930s, it has been around for more than ninety years. Most of Shanghai's alleys are Shikumen-style buildings, originating from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom uprising period, drawing on the style of residential buildings in the Jiangnan region, with stone door frames and solid black lacquered thick wood doors, hence the name 'Shikumen'. Touring Tianzifang's cultural and creative style, the old buildings made of red bricks, narrow alleys, retaining the architectural features of the old Shikumen houses. It seems to return to the past elements of time and space.
