The secluded Song Dynasty hollow stone pagoda, hidden from the world in the mountains

The Wuchen Pagoda is located about 400 meters west of Jiuzuo Temple in Fengding Village, Fengshan Township, Xianyou County, Fujian Province, and was originally built in the sixth year of the Tang Xiantong era (865 AD). The Wuchen Pagoda is a three-story stone structure with an octagonal hollow shape, standing 14.22 meters tall with an inner diameter of 6.45 meters. The tip of the pagoda is shaped like a lotus flower and a gourd. The base is carved with lotus stone, and the corner pillars of each layer are melon-ribbed. The lower part of the bottom layer is carved with relief patterns of dragons and dancing lions on all eight sides. There are doors on the south and north sides, and guardian relief sculptures on the southeast and southwest sides. Inside the pagoda, a spiral stone staircase winds upwards. The Wuchen Pagoda has a simple shape, unique brackets, and fine craftsmanship, making it a precious resource for studying Song Dynasty architecture.
