To understand the ancient Chiyou and the Jiuli tribe, visit the Yuncheng Chiyou Tribal Culture Museum

I used to have a vague concept of Chiyou, only knowing that he was the one defeated by the Yan Emperor and Huangdi's tribes in the Battle of Zhuolu mentioned in history textbooks. It was not until this visit to the museum that I first learned about Chiyou's history. 👈🏻👈🏻👈🏻 👉🏻Location: on the way to Dongguo Town, just navigate to: Chiyou Tribal Culture Palace, about a 20-minute drive from the Yancheng city area. Parking is convenient. 👉🏻Suggested visiting time: 30~60 minutes. 👉🏻The exhibition hall is quite small, with scenes divided into three stories: The Lord of Jiuli, the War God Chiyou, and the Battle of Zhuolu. Each scene is full of sound, light, music, and smoke effects, creating a full atmosphere and an immersive feeling. In ancient China, Chiyou, the tribal leader of the Jiuli, was also the god of war in Chinese mythology. This was also my first time learning about it. 👀👀👀 I was particularly impressed by the explanation of why Chiyou is called the god of war. According to legend, Chiyou was originally a subordinate of the Yan Emperor, who was defeated by the Huangdi. Afterward, Chiyou led eighty-one brothers from his tribe to rise up and compete for supremacy with Huangdi, culminating in a fierce battle at Zhuolu. Since Huangdi was deified, Chiyou could not be an exception; otherwise, how could the intensity of this battle be shown? It is said that Chiyou was skilled in using force and the ge (a type of ancient Chinese dagger-axe), fighting tirelessly and with unmatched bravery. Unable to defeat him by force, Huangdi asked for the help of heavenly gods to overcome him. The battle was so intense that it turned the sky dark and the ground red with blood. Chiyou was defeated, killed by Huangdi, and his head was buried, transforming into a forest of blood maples. Later, Huangdi honored Chiyou as the 'Master of Soldiers,' the god of war. His brave image still instills fear, and Huangdi painted his image on military flags to encourage his troops to fight bravely. The vassals surrendered without a fight upon seeing the image of Chiyou. 👉🏻There are also some display boards and replicas of ancient utensils. When we visited, the staff happened to start playing the explanations of the three stories from the beginning, so we got a comprehensive view. The way of explanation and the lighting effects were very well done and innovative. If you are passing by, I recommend stopping by to take a look.
