Cameroon 🇨🇲 Cameroon has it all: big cities, rainforests, mountains, and the Atlantic Ocean. For my first trip in 2026, I recommend a 5-day itinerary focusing on Yaoundé and Kribi, rather than forcing myself to go to Mount Cameroon or Limbe, as the South-West region still has high travel advisories. 📅 Itinerary — 5 Days Day 1: Yaoundé 🇨🇲 Start lightly at the Monument de la Réunification → National Museum → downtown Yaoundé. Return to the hotel in the evening. Avoid walking alone late at night as Yaoundé still has some mugging and armed robbery risks. Day 2: Yaoundé → Kribi 🌴 Depart after breakfast. Take a private car with a driver to Kribi, approximately 280 km. Allow 4-5 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Arrive and relax by the beach. No need to add any strenuous activities today. Day 3: Lobé Falls 💦 Visit Chutes de la Lobé, a major highlight of Kribi. The waterfall cascades directly onto the Atlantic coast and is about 7 km from the city. You can take a boat tour of the falls. Afterwards, enjoy seafood and spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach. Day 4: Kribi Slow Travel 🏖️ No more road trips today. Spend time on the beaches, fish market, seafood, and truly experiencing Kribi. If the weather is good, consider a short boat trip, choosing a boat with life jackets. Day 5: Kribi → Yaoundé Depart early in the morning and return to Yaoundé in the afternoon. If you have a return flight, consider staying another night in Yaoundé and flying the next day. It's safer to avoid traffic jams or road delays. 🏨 Recommended Accommodation In Yaoundé, for a good standard and easy transportation arrangements, choose Hilton Yaoundé. If you want a lower price point and are using the hotel as a base for sightseeing, La Falaise Hotel is another option. In Kribi, I chose Hôtel-Restaurant Les Gîtes de Kribi because it's on the way to Lobé Falls and more suitable for a trip focused on the beach rather than luxury hotels. 🍴 Recommended Restaurants In Yaoundé, try Socrat Restaurant for a comfortable dinner. In Kribi, if you're already visiting Lobé Falls, Le Plaisir du Gout, located on the Route des Chutes de la Lobé, is easily accessible. Recommended dishes include Ndolé (spinach cooked with peanuts), Poulet DG (chicken and plantain), grilled fish, fried plantain, and fresh seafood from Kribi. 📌 Tip Mount Cameroon should not be included in this plan yet. Because the mountains and Buea are in the South-West Region, which the FCDO still recommends avoiding, while Limbe itself is classified as "travel only if necessary" as of August 2026. If you see reviews recommending Mefou Primate Sanctuary near Yaoundé, double-check, as the Ape Action Africa website currently indicates it's temporarily closed to tourists until further notice. When traveling between cities, use transportation provided by the hotel or a reputable company rather than hailing a taxi on the street, and avoid driving long distances after dark. 🛂 Visa and Health Cameroon has an official e-Visa system from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You should apply for and check the requirements for your Thai passport through this system before booking your tickets. The system specifies that a regular short-term visa costs 100,000 CFA and an Express visa costs 150,000 CFA, according to the current rate. You must prepare a Yellow Fever Certificate, and Cameroon has a high risk of malaria throughout the country. Therefore, it's advisable to consult a travel medicine clinic before traveling. ✨ Summary Day 1 — Yaoundé City + History Day 2 — Kribi Road Trip + Beach Day 3 — Lobé Falls Waterfall + Seafood Day 4 — Kribi Relaxing Beach Trip Day 5 — Return to Yaoundé For a first trip, 5 days is ideal; not too tiring and avoids high-risk areas to see all the landmarks. 🇨🇲

Located near the cities of Limbe and Buea, this massive volcano towers at over 4,000 meters. The surrounding area features a unique mix of dense rainforests and volcanic terrain. On clear days, the sight of the high peaks set against the lush greenery and the Atlantic Ocean is truly spectacular. 🐘 Waza National Park For wildlife enthusiasts, the northern part of the country is the place to be. Waza National Park is one of Cameroon's most famous conservation areas. Here, the landscape transitions from the southern rainforests into vast grasslands and savannas. You have the chance to spot African elephants, giraffes, lions, and other wildlife, depending on the season and terrain. 🌊 Limbe This southwestern coastal town offers an atmosphere entirely different from other cities. Its standout features are the dark volcanic sand beaches and the sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounded by tropical forests and volcanic scenery, Limbe allows you to experience both the sea and the wilderness in the same area. 🌴 The Uniqueness of Cameroon: Geographical Diversity Cameroon's specialty is its incredible range of terrain: · The South is home to tropical rainforests. · The Central region features mountainous areas and highlands. · The North transitions into grasslands and savannas. This incredible variety has earned the country the nickname “Africa in Miniature,” as you can find almost every type of African landscape within its borders. 🌦️ When is the Best Time to Visit? The ideal time to travel depends on which region you plan to visit, as the weather in the north and south varies significantly. ☀️ Nov–Feb Generally the dry season, especially in the north. This is the best time for travel and exploring Waza National Park. 🌤️ Mar–May Temperatures begin to rise and rainfall starts to increase. The natural scenery begins to turn lush and green again. 🌧️ Jun–Oct The south enters its heavy rainy season. The rainforests become incredibly vibrant and humid, though travel in some areas may be affected by the rain. 🐘 If your main goal is a northern safari, the dry season (Nov–Feb) is usually best. #hellohalloween #naturalwonders #travel My boyfriend and I did the 3-day Mount Cameroon trek with Queen Tour in early June 2025 and had a fantastic experience. Everything was well organized from the start — we reached out to Simo (the manager, WhatsApp: +237 677 161 861) and he was super responsive, flexible, and made sure the itinerary matched our limited schedule. The trek was beautiful, well-paced, and the support team (guide and porters) were kind, calm, and very professional. That said: this is not an easy hike. It’s physically demanding — especially over three days. Day 1: 7.5 km, 1,906 m elevation gain in just 4 hours — very steep climb through forest and savannah to reach Hut 2. Day 2: 21.8 km, 1,230 m elevation gain in 7 hours — summit day! A long, tough push to the top (4095m), then down through lava fields to the forest. Day 3: 15.7 km, mostly downhill, through beautiful rainforest to Bokwango village (took us about 5 hours). We’re both quite fit and used to hiking, and it still pushed us. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t in solid physical shape, especially on the 3-day version where you do long distances each day. But if you’re up for it, it’s 100% worth the effort. The views, the silence of the mountain, the sense of accomplishment — all unforgettable. The changing landscapes are stunning, and summit sunrise was something truly special.
