Fengxin travel guide and discussion

#MainlandChina Hotels #OverseasTravel #MainlandTravel After crossing the border, it was very convenient to go back to the mainland for two days and one night. This time I chose to go to Fengxin Jiuxian Junlan Hot Spring Resort Hotel in Jiangxi Province🏨, where you can enjoy it in a five-star hotel and soak in the hot springs♨️ The hotel is already beautiful in appearance, very detached house court style, the lobby is luxuriously decorated, and this stay in the double room, spacious, the bed is also large, and has a terrace with a view, very comfortable! ⭐️ And the hotel also has a separate hot spring pool, which can be enjoyed by guests😎! Fengxin Jiuxian Junlan Hot Spring Resort Hotel 📍No. 69, Yuequan Road, Baxi Township, Fengxin County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province

Don't want your social media feed to look like everyone else's during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays? Then Yangshan Baishuiya in Fengxin is a unique holiday choice. 📍Yangshan Baishuiya, Fengxin, Yichun 🌊Cuntoufang · Baishuiya Waterfall Tucked deep within nearly 80,000 mu of bamboo forests, you can drive right up to the edge of Baishuiya. The water flow is just right in autumn. The cascading waterfall slides down the rock face, and the white noise of the water is incredibly healing! Run freely across the open lawn and start a slow-paced holiday filled with a sense of ritual. ✅Nomadic Kitchen At the foot of Baishuiya Waterfall, experience a rustic, nomadic vacation vibe. You can book outdoor afternoon tea and customized mountain-style meals. Bring your dining table into the heart of nature~ ✅Wooden House Coffee A log-style mountain cafe. Sit quietly in the afternoon, sip coffee, and enjoy the view of the bamboo sea and mountains. No crowds or noise like at trendy spots, just the mountain breeze and the aroma of coffee~ 💡Autumn travel tips ▪️It gets chilly in the mountains in the morning and evening, so remember to bring a light jacket. ▪️It gets crowded during holidays, so it's recommended to book your homestay in advance. ▪️The whole trip is relaxing and friendly for both seniors and children. For this sound of water and the aroma of coffee, it's worth a special trip🍂

Another masterpiece by Cun Tou Fang A mountain-style waterfall coffee shop This time, I chose a picturesque nook surrounded by mountains Built a vacation-style coffee campsite right by the waterfall With mountains behind and a stream in front, it's tucked away deep in the mountains It carries a sense of mystery, as if isolated from the world Distant mountains, dense forests, waterfalls, and streams Together, they sketch a healing landscape of the wild The mountains are the dream, and what's at hand is life From the romantic wilderness to the warmth of everyday life It's just a step away here . The location here is truly hidden Unless you're a seasoned mountain enthusiast You'll likely have trouble finding it I want to give a special reminder about navigation I accidentally navigated directly to Baishuiya before And ended up on a narrow, dangerous dead-end road So when you come here Make sure to set your navigation to Nomad Kitchen . ☕️Cun Tou Fang · Nomad Kitchen 📍North side of Baishiya Waterfall Campsite, Fengxin County, Yichun City .

Where to go for Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? Today, I'm not talking about Dali and Lijiang, nor Xi'an and Chengdu. I've unearthed four hidden gem towns – mountains, water, ancient architecture, delicious food, and so few people that you can practically have the entire scenic area to yourself. You can comfortably enjoy your trip for just over 1000 yuan per person. Take advantage of the crisp autumn air and bookmark this! 🏞️ First Stop: Fengxin, Jiangxi | A "Pure" Town of Zen-Inspired Landscapes Recommended Duration: 2 days Fengxin is located in Yichun, just an hour and a half drive from Nanchang. What impressed me most here was its profound tranquility. Baizhang Temple on Baizhang Mountain is the birthplace of the "Pure Rules of Zen Buddhism." The stone inscription handwritten by Liu Gongquan still stands, and the temple maintains the ancient custom of "no work, no food." The mountain isn't high, but the forest coverage is 92%. In autumn, walking through it, you're surrounded by bamboo forests and a light mist, the air filled with the scent of pine needles. 🌿 How to Visit (2 Days): · Day 1: Baizhang Temple → Hiking along the Longtan Trail behind the temple → Stay at a farmhouse in Baizhang Village · Day 2: Luobotan Eight Immortals Waterfall Group → Song Yingxing Memorial Hall → Sunset viewing at Liaohe Park in the county town 🌅 Transportation: Driving is recommended. It takes about 1.5 hours from Nanchang via the Changtong Expressway; alternatively, you can take a bus to Fengxin County and then transfer. Reservations: Baizhang Temple is free. Luobotan entrance fee is about 45 yuan (book online in advance). Song Yingxing Memorial Hall is free with your ID card. ✅ Local Food: Fengxin spoon-shaped pork with rice crust porridge is a perfect match. Other options include rice noodles with shredded pork in sauce, stir-fried fern with cured meat, Ai Mi Guo (a type of rice cake), and Huangyuan rice cake. You can eat your fill for around 40-50 yuan per person. Experience: Here, there is no commercial hustle and bustle; it feels more like stepping into a living mountain village and ancient temple. In the evening, sitting in a farmhouse courtyard watching the bamboo forest and listening to the stream, you'll feel completely at peace. 🌱 Important Notes: The temperature difference between day and night is significant in the mountains; remember to bring a light jacket in September and October. The trails are slippery, so wear non-slip shoes. Dress appropriately and remain quiet when entering temples. Second Stop · Yulin, Shaanxi | Danxia Landform and the Great Wall in the Camel City of the Northwest Recommended Duration: 3 days Yulin is the most "hardcore" of these four. It's home to Zhenbeitai, one of the three wonders of the Great Wall, and also the Jingbian Wave Valley—the red Danxia landform known as "China's Antelope Valley." In October, the Danxia landform in Yulin is a vibrant red, and the vegetation along the Great Wall turns brownish-yellow. Every shot is a masterpiece under the light and shadow. Crucially, there are very few tourists here. 🏜️ Itinerary (3 days): · Day 1: Yulin Old Street (Liulou Qijie) → Hongshixia Cliff Carvings → Zhenbeitai for "Red Mountain Sunset" 🌄 · Day 2: Jingbian Wave Valley (Flame Danxia, One Line Sky, Water Danxia) → Tongwancheng Ruins (along the way) · Day 3: Shenmu Hongjiannao (China's largest freshwater lake in the desert) → Erlintu Grassland, return trip Transportation: Xi'an high-speed rail to Yulin takes about 2.5 hours, or you can fly to Yuyang Airport; taxis are readily available within the city, but for inter-county travel, hiring a car or driving yourself is strongly recommended (attractions are often 50-150 kilometers apart). Reservations: Hongshixia and Zhenbeitai are each 30 yuan (combined ticket 50 yuan), Wave Valley is about 90 yuan including shuttle bus. For popular attractions, it is recommended to make reservations 1 day in advance through the official WeChat account. ✅ Local Delicacies: Hengshan stewed mutton is tender and flavorful, perfect with millet cake; a breakfast of mutton offal soup and Suide fried dough twists costs only 15 yuan; the night market also offers bowl-shaped steamed buns, fried soy milk, and sea buckthorn juice. Travel Experience: Standing on Zhenbeitai, watching the Great Wall wind its way through the autumn colors like a dragon's spine, the desolation and vastness are something southern cities can't offer. Walking into the "One Line Sky" at Wave Valley truly feels like stepping on the surface of Mars. 🌅 Precautions: The temperature difference between day and night in northern Shaanxi is extreme; bring a light down jacket in the mornings and evenings; remember to use sunscreen due to strong UV rays; never step on the Danxia landforms; supplies are limited in scenic areas, bring your own drinking water. Third Stop · Jiyuan, Henan | Mountains, Rivers, Monkeys, and Temples of the Hometown of Yu Gong Recommended Duration: 3 days Jiyuan is small, yet it encompasses the story of "Yu Gong Moving Mountains," Wangwu Mountain (the first Taoist grotto), the Yellow River Three Gorges, Taihang macaques, and the thousand-year-old Jidu Temple—all within one city. September and October are the most comfortable months, neither too hot nor too cold, perfect for leisurely walks. What surprised me most was the Yellow River Three Gorges—the emerald green canyons formed by the Xiaolangdi Reservoir, known as the "Northern Thousand Island Lake." Boating through them, the red cliffs reflected in the green water were far more stunning than I had imagined. 🌊 How to go (3 days): · Day 1: Climb Tian Tan Peak at Wangwu Mountain → See the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree at Yangtai Palace → Stay overnight in Wangwu Town · Day 2: Xiaolangdi Viewing Platform → Yellow River Three Gorges boat trip (Gushan Gorge, Longfeng Gorge, Bali Gorge) · Day 3: See Taihang macaques at Wulongkou → Visit the ancient Jidu Temple → Enjoy Yellow River carp in the city Transportation: Take the high-speed rail to Jiyuan East Station; driving from Zhengzhou/Luoyang takes about 1.5-2 hours; the scenic areas are scattered, hiring a car for about 300 yuan/day is the most convenient option. Reservations: Wangwu Mountain 65 yuan, Wulongkou 40 yuan, Jidu Temple 30 yuan, Yellow River Three Gorges free but boat ticket 80 yuan; during peak season, it is recommended to make reservations one day in advance through "Henan Cultural Tourism Pass" or the scenic area's official WeChat account with your real name and ID card. ✅ Local Food: The soul of breakfast is "Egg Flip" (5 yuan a serving), along with local bread, acorn jelly, Yellow River carp, and beef balls. The South Street Night Market is a place where you can eat until you're stuffed. Travel Experience: The sea of clouds and thousand-year-old ginkgo trees at Wangwu Mountain are calming; the macaques at Wulongkou are clever and cute, but don't look directly at them or tease them; the boat trip on the Yellow River Three Gorges is the most relaxing part. The whole town has a slow pace, perfect for unwinding. 🌿 Important Notes: Bring a jacket and non-slip shoes due to the large temperature difference in the mountains; keep your distance when feeding monkeys and do not feed them your own food; the Xiaolangdi Dam is most spectacular during June and July when it regulates water and sediment, while September and October offer views of the emerald water dam; for self-driving, take the Taihang Highway No. 1 for stunning scenery. Fourth Stop · Luoping, Yunnan | A Hidden Autumn Paradise of Waterfalls and Buyi Ethnic Customs Recommended Duration: 2 days Many people only know about Luoping's rapeseed flower fields in spring, but they don't know that autumn in Luoping is truly a time of "fewer crowds and more beautiful scenery." The Jiulong Waterfall Group is renowned as "Nine Dragons and Ten Waterfalls, a Wonder of Southern China." The main waterfall, Shenlong Waterfall, is 56 meters high and 112 meters wide, and during the high-water season, double rainbows often appear in the mist. In October, the water volume is still abundant, but there are so few tourists that you can have the entire viewing platform to yourself, making it excellent value for money. 🌈 How to Enjoy (2 Days): · Day 1: Jiulong Waterfall Group (Shenlong Waterfall, Lover's Waterfall, Panoramic Viewing Platform) → Evening: Watch the sunset at Jinji Peak Forest. 🌄 · Day 2: Bamboo Rafting on the Duoyi River → Watch a Buyi ethnic performance and experience making flower rice. → Return trip. Transportation: Kunming high-speed train to Luoping takes about 1.5 hours; public transportation between scenic areas is limited, so it is recommended to hire a car (about 200-400 yuan/day) or drive yourself. Reservations: Jiulong Waterfall ticket is about 60 yuan (57 yuan online); during the off-season, admission to Jinji Peak Forest is free after 5:30 PM, perfect for sunset photography. ✅ Local Cuisine: Buyi five-colored flower rice is soft, sticky, and fragrant; sour bamboo shoot fish is spicy and appetizing; there's also Fule crispy pork, fried river shrimp, and Luyi cured pork. A good meal can be had for around 20-30 yuan per person. Experience: Approaching Shenlong Waterfall, the roar of the water is deafening, and the spray hits your face. Standing on the panoramic viewing platform overlooking the ten-tiered waterfall, you'll truly get goosebumps. Bamboo rafts drift leisurely on the Duoyi River, flanked by Buyi villages, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle. 🌅 Precautions: The stone paths around the waterfall are slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip river shoes; bring a waterproof phone case when approaching the waterfall on a bamboo raft; be aware of the strong ultraviolet radiation at high altitudes; respect farmland and avoid trampling on rapeseed fields. In conclusion: These four places each have their own soul—Fengxin is Zen, Yulin is vast, Jiyuan is wondrous, and Luoping is beautiful. They aren't super popular tourist destinations, but they're all at their most beautiful in September and October, and the cost is really low—you can enjoy a leisurely trip for just over 1000 yuan per person. 🌅 Travel off-peak, leave the National Day crowds behind, and go and enjoy the true scenery in solitude. Which one do you like best? Tell me in the comments, and I'll post a detailed itinerary in the next post. Where to go for Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? I visited Fengxin this time and stayed at the Changlv Qinlu Jiuxian Hot Spring Hotel. I was truly amazed! Located at 69 Yuequan Road, Zaoxi Township, about a 70-min drive from Nanchang. Surrounded by mountains and shrouded in mist all year round, opening the balcony door reveals 300,000 mu of rolling bamboo forests—breathtakingly beautiful. Over 60 hot spring pools are scattered throughout the forest. Soaking at night while looking up at the starry sky is so healing. There's also an indoor pool, making it stress-free for families with kids! The rooms are spacious with viewing balconies. Connecting rooms are available for families traveling together, and there are various themed family rooms to choose from. The "Junlin" Chinese Restaurant serves authentic Jiangxi cuisine. The braised pork and bamboo shoots are must-orders! Key point: Pets are allowed! Furry friends stay for free—how wonderful. The butler service is very thoughtful, with a 24-hour front desk, free parking, and EV charging stations available. Travel tips: About 70 mins by car from Nanchang | About 80 mins from Changbei Airport | The hotel provides airport/train station pickup services. The surrounding area is great for hiking and bamboo forest walks, and you can visit the Jing'an Ski Resort in winter. Two days was too short—too short to soak in every single hot spring pool. But I know I'll be back. If you're also looking for a place to turn off your phone notifications, slow down your pace, and let the mountain breeze and hot springs hit the pause button for you—come to Jiuxian in Fengxin. There's no hustle and bustle of the city here, only 300,000 mu of mountain scenery, over 60 hot spring pools, and a puppy rolling around at your feet. 🏨 Changlv Qinlu Jiuxian Hot Spring Hotel, Fengxin, Yichun [RoundNails] 69 Yuequan Road, Zaoxi Township, Fengxin

First, I visited Hualin Academy before heading here. Although the journey was a bit rough, I was immediately amazed upon seeing the actual structure, and couldn’t help but exclaim it was worth it. . Jimei Stone Arch was originally built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It is entirely made of bluestone, and after several hundred years, it remains well-preserved. It is one of only three surviving single-structure square stone archways from the Ming Dynasty in the country, and the only nationally protected four-sided stone arch in Jiangxi Province. In terms of completeness and exquisite carving, it is extremely rare in China, and in no way inferior to the ancient architectural masterpieces I have seen in Shanxi. 👍 . The square shape with four pillars and four sides is neat and grand. It stands 12.2 meters tall and 4.15 meters wide. Standing beneath it, you instantly feel very small. Each top side is carved with the words “Imperial Edict,” exuding a strong sense of authority. In the center is the prominent inscription “Jimei.” The lower part is engraved with the reasons for building the arch and the official titles of those honored. Looking closely, the arch is covered with exquisite carvings— figures, flowers, dragons and phoenixes, mythical beasts… all lifelike. Every detail reveals the craftsmanship of the ancients. From the differences in stone color, you can also clearly see traces of later repairs. . In ancient times, arches like this were like honor billboards issued by the imperial court, mainly for the following reasons: official recognition, setting examples, glorifying ancestors, and educating the community. This stone arch is no different— it was built to honor the Hu family’s generations of “Jimei” good deeds. Moreover, it has a deep connection with the Hualin Academy I wrote about earlier. . 📌Jimei Stone Arch and Hualin Academy · During the Northern Song Dynasty, Hu Zhongyao and Hu Zhongrong, ancestors of the Hu family from Hualin, founded Hualin Academy, one of the four great academies in Jiangnan, and also donated grain for disaster relief and built bridges and roads. · In the Ming Dynasty, descendant Hu Shixiu inherited the family tradition of valuing culture, kindness, and charity. · To honor the Hu family’s generations of virtue, the imperial court specially decreed silver to build the arch. The words “Jimei” are taken from the Zuo Zhuan, meaning “to benefit the world and preserve one’s good name,” expressing the hope that descendants will forever carry on their ancestors’ virtues. . In summary, without the achievements of Hualin Academy, there would be no recognition in the form of Jimei Stone Arch. Jimei Stone Arch is the “monument” to the historical glory of Hualin Academy. This low-key yet stunning national treasure stone arch is truly worth a special visit. . ⚠️ Road Condition Reminder I first visited Hualin Academy, then drove to Jimei Stone Arch. Along the way, a section of the road is under repair and covered with gravel. With the recent rainy season in the south, potholes are filled with water. The muddy, gravelly road is especially difficult to drive on and very challenging. For those planning to drive, cars with low clearance should proceed with caution. . 🏛️ Jimei Stone Arch .

Emerging from Jiuxian Hot Springs, a twenty-minute drive along the mountain road brought me to Baizhang Temple. The name Baizhang Temple originates from the Tang Dynasty monk Huaihai, who established the *Baizhang Rules of Purity* here. The saying, "No work, no food," is said to have originated from this place. I wasn't there seeking career advancement (though the rumors are indeed true), nor was I there to check off a particular spot. I simply wanted a quiet place to sit for a while after soaking in the hot springs and admiring the lake. The temple is small, nestled in a mountain valley. The incense burns slowly, and the monks sweep slowly as well. I sat for a long time on the stone steps outside the main hall, watching a sparrow hop on the roof tiles, the wind chimes under the eaves ringing crisply in the breeze. This reminded me of my mentor Nicola Clayton's concept of "Mental Time Travel"—memories aren't recorded on a film recorder; they are reconstructed each time we revisit them. I sit here, trying to place myself from last May 20th, overwhelmed by papers and deadlines, a disheveled figure in the dead of night, in the same time and space as the person sitting on the stone steps outside the main hall today. Actually, there's no question of reconciliation. It's just that I saw it. The mountain is still the same mountain, the temple is still the same temple. Between that disheveled self and this soft, sweet feeling lies a grape, a pool of 72℃ hot spring water, a boat on the lake breeze, and this afternoon's sparrows and monastic rules. 📌 Practical Notes (Fengxin Off-the-Beaten-Path Zen-Inspired Tour) · Location: Baizhang Temple, Fengxin County, Yichun City, about a 20-minute drive from Jiuxian Hot Spring, perfect for a half-day trip combined with the hot springs. · Highlights: The site of Master Huaihai's monastic practice, the birthplace of the "Rules of the World" (Figure 2). The archway, the main hall, and the Dharma hall can all be experienced at a leisurely pace. · Suggested approach: Soak in the hot springs in the morning, then come for meditation in the afternoon. The temple is quiet, perfect for bringing a small book and flipping through a few pages on the stone steps (Figure 19). · Tip: Silent your phone when entering the temple. Don't take close-up photos of the Buddha statues; just look with your eyes and listen with your ears. In conclusion It's not about coming here to pray for anything. It's just that sometimes you need a place where your vulnerable self and your current, gentle self can quietly meet. · --

Driving to Fengxin County Arriving at the entrance of Huangshaping Village By the roadside, I stumbled upon a stone-carved Buddhist pagoda It looked quite old, so I stopped to take a closer look After verification, it was indeed an ancient pagoda from the Qing Dynasty The faded Buddhist relief carvings on the pagoda body were still faintly visible But the inscriptions on the right side had been eroded by the wind and rain, making them illegible The incense burner in the Buddhist niche at the base still held remnants of old incense On the back of the pagoda, the words “Huangsha” and “Slow Down” were visible These modern marks were clearly left by later generations New and old traces intertwined The ancient pagoda quietly stands by the mountain road Hidden among the mountains and waters, guarding this land Carrying the beautiful hopes of humanity Silently watching the seasons change and the years pass

This archway stands like a silent mountain gate, more like an elder who has endured the vicissitudes of time yet still stands tall, quietly guarding this land. Passing through the archway and heading northwest, you reach the site of Hualin Academy. Though now only ruins remain, it was once one of the Four Great Academies of Jiangnan, renowned alongside Bailudong, Yuelu, and Ehu Academies. The academy began as a private school of the Hu family, dedicated to passing down family scholarship and fine traditions. It was officially expanded into an academy under Hu Zhongyao’s leadership. It flourished, producing many talents. Remarkably, it was ahead of its time in promoting education for women, pioneering female schooling by admitting female students and valuing their education—an uncommon practice in that era. Though the academy was destroyed by war, the Taoist temple ruins have been preserved. The current stone archway was built during the temple’s restoration. It stands as a witness to history, having seen the rise and fall of cultural heritage and the passage of time, as well as the fusion and coexistence of Confucian and Taoist cultures here. This ancient site quietly hides among the green mountains and dense forests, guarding a past sealed by time. ⚠️ The Hualin Academy cultural tourism site includes the Wannian Palace Archway, academy ruins, Zhaoshen Platform, Hu Zhongyao’s tomb, and the Eight Hundred Caves—all nearby and can be explored together. 📕 Hualin Academy Site .
