Each barrier has a pull-off; at Barrier 3 I snorkelled (dry suit rented in Stromness, £40) over the blockship wreck of the Buchara—a deliberate sunk freighter, hull at 12 m, peacock anemones on the rail. Not for beginners; the tide rips. Then to Lamb Holm and the Italian Chapel: built by POWs from two Nissen huts, frescoed by Domenico Chiocchetti, free entry, donation box. Open 9–19 in summer. The contrast—grey naval concrete outside, luminous Madonna inside—is the whole point. Fuel: fill in Kirkwall; south isles have one shop at St Margaret's Hope, card only. Mistake: I tried to do Scapa snorkel + barriers + chapel + Skara Brae in one day and saw none well; chapel + two barriers at golden hour is the right dose. Ferry from Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope is £20 car, £8 foot, but I came via Aberdeen–Kirkwall flight. Sharing Series After My Third Cruise Trip - Part 1: A Brief Report on the Costa Favolosa My third cruise trip was a 14-day cruise on the Costa Favolosa, departing in May 2026, covering Northern Europe: Germany, the UK, Scotland, and Norway. See attached image 1. This brief report aims to provide readers with additional information. The Costa Favolosa's maiden voyage was in 2011, and it underwent renovations in 2018. Therefore, we will not use modern standards for comparison; this is a showcase of the services included in the basic fare for the Costa Favolosa. · Onboard Facilities: As listed in the brochures, well-maintained. A few public restrooms are somewhat old, and the free binoculars for standing upright on the deck are also old. · Cabin Comfort: This time, I booked an inside cabin, a 7-series cabin located in the middle of the deck, which is also the middle deck of the cruise ship. The ship's swaying was minimal, the soundproofing was excellent, and the bedding was clean. · Room Amenities: As listed in the brochure, well-maintained. Electric water heater (no drinking water). One USB outlet on the bedside table and one European standard outlet on the dressing table. Water pressure in the room is good, with sufficient water pressure and heat for showering. · Language of Communication: International languages ​​are the primary languages ​​used on board. English is the common language, and announcements, menus, and daily reports usually offer services in Italian, English, Spanish, French, and German. Lupinas in full bloom just outside the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall Orkney. Next to the Pickaquoy Centre there's a caravan park, a co-op, a Tesco and a Lidl. It's a great stop if you are touring Orkney in a van or caravan or motorhome. The picky also offers gym and swimming pool (there's also a health suite with jacuzzi and sauna), the have day passes for visitors, has free WiFi, a café and a cinema. It has a soft play park great to visit with children. I love this place!

Kirkwall is the largest town in Orkney Island, an archipelago to the north of mainland Scotland. The airport also serves the major airports like Edinburgh, Glasgow etc. Cruise ships also stop here, it is also a transport hub with ferries to many locations. St Magnus cathedral the 11th century church of Saint Olaf of Norway. Along Ablert St there is a hollow tree on it. Bishop and Earl's Palaces are a place worth stopping for some interesting ruins, that are built in the 1100s at about the same time as Saint Magus Cathedral.
