Windin Trail Bliss🌲
Chasing Clouds at Windin Falls 🌧️🌄
Windin Falls near Malanda is where dramatic clouds, misty valleys, and a breathtaking infinity-edge view come together for an epic, heart-thrilled adventure. The trail itself is an Aussie classic—think foggy rainforest, creek crossings, and those Insta-famous cliff-edge rock slabs overlooking the canyon below.
🚶♂️ Recommended Route:
Start early at the Windin Falls Trailhead (718 Gourka Rd, Topaz). The hike is about 5km each way – mostly easy-moderate with a couple of slippery bits, especially after rain. The payoff is the iconic lookout right at the falls edge: perfect for a dramatic “on the rocks” snap with clouds rolling in!
🎒 Must-Do Experiences:
- Brave the infinity pool for a wild swim (if safe to do so!)
- Rest and snack on the boulders as you soak in rainforest views—great spot to watch clouds drift through the canyon
- Explore a little downstream for quieter spots if it gets busy
📸 Insta-Worthy Shots:
- Wide angle from the infinity pool edge with mist shrouding the valley
- Moody “adventure squad” group rests on the rocks
- Close-up shots of creek reflections (especially after recent rain)
🔍 Practical Tips & Precautions:
- Track gets muddy after rain—good hiking shoes are a must
- The falls edge can be slippery (be super cautious—stay back from the edge on wet days)
- Take enough water/snacks; no facilities en route
- Phone signal drops off after the car park, so share your plans with a mate
- Clouds and fog make for epic photos, but also can reduce visibility—time your hike for daylight hours
