Located on the coast of Grande Comore Island in Comoros, this seaside hotel opens directly onto a pristine private bay. The entire coastline is formed by dark volcanic basalt rocks, with soft white sand nestled between jagged black stones. Tall and short coconut trees are scattered along the cliffs, and seaside guesthouses are hidden among lush greenery on the cliffs. At dawn, the sea is exceptionally calm, with nearshore waters blending into a transparent gradient of turquoise. Gentle waves softly lap the shore repeatedly. Local fishermen set out to sea in traditional dugout canoes, slowly beginning the island’s daily routine. There is no tourist noise, only the sea breeze, waves, and morning misty clouds, fully capturing the authentic atmosphere of this lesser-known Indian Ocean island. Far from the bustling tourist areas, the entire bay is quiet and leisurely. The soft light of sunrise spreads across the sea, embodying the unique relaxed and healing vibe of this isolated island.

I was just passing along the coast of Comoros in the evening when I saw this. Freshly caught fish, some of them huge, simply laid out and sold by the roadside. No proper fish market. No fancy stalls. Just the sea right beside them, the evening catch, and people stopping by to choose their fish. Comoros is still a very simple and unpolished place in many ways. My first stop in Comoros was Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport in Moroni. It is a small and simple airport, but the view around it is quite memorable — open runway, palm tree, mountains in the distance, and a wide blue sky that immediately gives an island feeling. The airport does not feel overly commercial or busy. Everything moves at a slower, more local pace. I processed my visa at the VIP area, and one detail that left an impression was seeing the staff still recording information by hand in a logbook. The hotel was decent considering it was in moroni. However, the bathroom needs renovation and the furniture is old. The pizza at the restaurant in the hotel was really good and its worth a try. Lastly the staff was very friendly as well.
