NA HANG - "Halong Bay on Land"
CHECK IN NA HANG - "Halong Bay on Land" During Sunny Season
People often say "Thai Tea, Tuyen Girls," but during our trip to Na Hang, we didn’t get the chance to meet many Tuyen Quang girls. Instead, we were completely captivated by the majestic beauty of this place.
The Na Hang tourist area is located in two districts, Na Hang and Lam Binh, about 100km from the center of Tuyen Quang city.
🚗 TRANSPORTATION:
We traveled from Hanoi, which took about 5-6 hours by car via National Highway 2 to Chiem Hoa and then to Na Hang.
Alternatively, you can take a bus operated by Bao Yen Company on the My Dinh – Na Hang route, with two trips per day. Or, you can take a bus from nearby stations to Tuyen Quang and then catch another bus to Na Hang.
⏰ BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Na Hang is arguably most beautiful during summer, from April to September.
Visiting Na Hang during this time, the weather can be hot during the day, but it’s also the rainy season, which raises the water level in the lake and increases the flow of waterfalls. This makes it the perfect time to enjoy activities like paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming in waterfalls, or soaking in the cool waters of Na Hang Hydropower Lake.
Additionally, you can visit Na Hang in spring to explore Hong Thai commune in Na Hang district, where you can take stunning photos of the hills covered in blooming pear flowers and experience wearing traditional Dao ethnic clothing.
🏕 MUST-VISIT SPOTS:
Here are some places you should check out when visiting Na Hang:
- Take a boat tour of Na Hang Lake (Tuyen Quang Hydropower Lake), departing from Ben Thuy to immerse yourself in the majestic beauty of 99 mountains.
The boat ride takes about 5 hours, depending on the itinerary you arrange with the boat operator. Don’t forget to bring snacks and drinks for the journey as it’s quite long ☺️.
The boat we took was operated by Phuong Nga, and the itinerary included stops at:
* Khuoi Nhi Waterfall, where you can swim and experience fish nibbling at your feet. Make sure to bring swimwear and extra clothes.
* After lunch, the boat moves to Coc Vai, also known as Vai Pha, a sacred stone pillar for the Tay people in the region. Legend has it that you can make a wish at Coc Vai.
At Coc Vai, you can also try kayaking.
If you prefer not to take the 5-hour boat ride and only want to kayak, you can head straight to Ben Lam Binh and rent a kayak there.
💵 Kayak rental price: 70k/hour
💰 Boat rental price from Ben Thuy varies depending on the boat, ranging from 1 million to 1.5 million VND for 10-15 passengers. We were just two people, so we joined a shared boat for 300k/person, which included the boat ride and a very satisfying lunch onboard. Some smaller boats don’t serve food, costing around 150k/person. Be sure to confirm details before boarding.
You can ask the homestay or hotel owner to contact the boat operator to book in advance. We didn’t plan ahead, so we drove straight to Ben Thuy, parked the car, and joined a shared boat with another group.
- Visit Na Hang Hydropower Plant.
As far as I know, the plant is not a tourist site, so if you want to visit, you need to get permission from the security guards beforehand. We only stopped outside to take photos.
