Take a trip to the temple
🛕🙏🌳Wat Hua Khwang is located on Maha Phrom Road, Nai Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District. It is an important temple in the Hua Waen area of Nan Province, located near Ho Kham or the Nan National Museum. There is a chapel and a pagoda with local Lanna art styles. The craftsmen of Nan Province are exquisite and beautiful. It is not known when this temple was built. There is only evidence that it was renovated around 1882 by Chao Anantaworaritdet, the Lord of Nan Province, and later around 1929 during the reign of Chao Maha Phrom Surathatha, the last ruler of Nan. Later, in July 1990, the Fine Arts Department sent officials to renovate the pagoda of Wat Hua Khwang and declared it a national historical site.
Places of worship in Wat Hua Khwang
Vihara
Currently, it is a gable-shaped building, notable for its gable decorated with intricate and beautiful wood carvings of flora. The door and window arches are decorated with stucco designs in the shape of cabbage leaves, which is a Western art style. It is a chapel made by craftsmen of Nan Province. Unique in its own style. In addition, in the temple, there is an old library that is worth seeing. It is similar to a temple but is smaller and taller. The gable and upper walls are decorated with beautiful carvings. It is located near the chedi.
Wat Hua Khwang Chedi
It is a chedi in the shape of a castle or a golden house, influenced by Lanna art. The lower base is made of a square board, supporting a lotus pedestal with 2 layers, with a front layer, a middle board. The upper lotus pedestal base is recessed to support the chedi chamber, reaching the lotus pedestal below the bell. The chedi chamber has a Charanam niche on each side. There is a bronze Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture at the corners of both walls, molded in the shape of a garlanded angel standing with hands together in prayer. Above the sunset tier at the end of the chedi chamber is a lotus pedestal tier with 3 layers. The bell is small and has no throne. The overall shape is similar to the chedi at Wat Lok Moli, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province, which was built during the reign of Phra Mueang Ketklao, totaling 2071 B.E., but the lower base and lotus pedestal of this chedi are raised higher, making it more slender and taller, showing the development of the form of the craftsmen of Nan. Modified for use in the later period, which is probably not older than the first half of the 22nd Buddhist century.
Ho Trai, Wat Hua Khwang, Ho Trai
is a rectangular building with four porches. The foundation is solid and the pulpit is square with a gourd-shaped top carved with lacquer and gold leaf and decorated with glass. It is a place to store Tripitaka and ancient scriptures that are many years old since the temple was built.
